With my groupbuys coming up I'm interested to know what countries have customs limits when importing from outside. I don't wanna send members steelbooks declaring a certain value on the customs forms only for them to have to pay another fee to release the goods. All steelbooks are being shipped from the UK and to the following countries:
USA Australia New Zealand Russia Canada European countries are fine I'm not worried about those but any info would be greatly appreciated! ![]() Last edited by cudzndrips; 08-14-2013 at 02:00 PM. Reason: content |

I've only had customs hit me once so far when, IIRC, importing about $700 worth of movies into the US from Spain (doing a group order).
At the time I was freaked out and angry so I tried to read about it. The sense I got was that I don't think there is any known limit, it depends on which avenues it comes through whether it looks like something that is being imported for commercial instead of personal use, and whether the officials have the whim to single out your package. So it is very hard to know what will happen. That time it was held at some dock or something in Miami. They phoned me and I had to fax them a bunch of paperwork and credit card info. The package was big and full of DVDs, many duplicates, and they had clearly opened it. Other than that I have never had anything from Amazon held, from any European country or Canada, but everything there has always been under $200. |

Dude.... Canada? Are we that easily forgettable?
![]() As for Canada and the topic at hand, I've only ever seen import fees on stuff with a declared value of $100 or more. Less than $100 and it usually isn't worth the paperwork and effort to tax by customs. Between $100 - $200 it gets to be more hit and miss. Over $200 and there is a high risk of being "processed." Best thing to do is just declare them as gifts while simultaneously declaring a lower value. I've sent packages to the US with $500 - $800 worth of stuff in one box. I declared them as a gifts with a $100 value and they've never been taxed. ![]() Last edited by Petra_Kalbrain; 08-14-2013 at 01:28 PM. |

Importing into the US is usually fine up to $200 ( http://www.dutycalculator.com/help_c...United-States/ ).
Under declaring the value has a drawback though, if you also get insurance on the item(s). You usually can't get insurance for more than the declared value. |

I have ordered the steelbook covers from movie style in france to the USA 100 at a time. The weight of those and the packaging is both larger and heavier than a single steelbook. I have not been hit with a charge as of yet. They have put on the customs slip what they were. So I can't believe that a single steelbook should cause much issue. Hope that helps. And thanks for doing the group buys. Its greatly appreciated here in the USA
