I am currently hunting for good Podcasts to listen to and Books to read regarding film. I figured this would be the best place to ask. I am currently listening to Filmspotting and Doug Loves Movies.
Any suggestions or general discussions would be great. Thanks in advance. |

Nice. I'll check these out! I didn't think I was the only film nerd that was looking to fill all of his time with furthering his film education.

1) Film Junk - My favorite, although not especially for the film talk. Plus they have 2 or 3 podcasts dedicated on how to organize your blu-ray collection.
2) SlashFilmCast - Solid, they have some pretty good guests on at times. 3) Filmspotting - A tad on the pretentious side at times, still some good film talk. 4) Filmspotting SVU - Matt Singer and Alison Wilmore (formerly of the IFC Podcast) have this Filmspotting spin-off where they talk about films available for streaming. 5) KCRW's The Business - Love the business talk. 6) Q/A with Jeff Goldsmith - Really depends on if I've seen the movie, I usually wait to see it before listening. 7) KCRW's The Treatment - Again, it really depends on the guest. |

The AuteurCast (especially the input from WesAnthony) is worth listening to. Just know the guest hosts they bring on can sometimes drag the show down. Especially the guy they had on for a few Tarantino episodes that is part of the CriterionCast podcast (which I find dull) If you're into cult movies, you should consider reading Midnight Movies by Jon Rosenbaum and J. Hoberman. They go into detail over the New York experimental scene and films by Andy Warhol, Eraserhrad, El Topo, Rock Horror. I found my copy for $4 at Halpricebooks and haven't regretted it. |

Also a couple of good TV podcasts:
A Cast of Kings (Game of Thrones) & The Ones Who Knock (Breaking Bad); Both hosted by David Chen (/Filmcast) & Joanna Robinson (Pajiba.com). Both follow the same structure discussing each week's episode (Spoiler free up to the current episode) in-depth and discussing the show in general. Both shows are currently my favorite two on TV, and these podcasts are enjoyable and help with my appreciation of the shows. If you are a fan of either, they are both worth checking out. |

Worth checking out the podcast, especially with GoT. He hasn't read the book, but she has, so it's a nice blend of knowledge. I haven't read the books, so it's good to hear more about certain characters & scenes that differ in the books. Every week there is something I miss that the podcast brings up.

I've recently been getting into movie podcasts and the ones I follow the most are:
The Film Vault The Long and Late Movie Show /Filmcast Filmspotting Operation Kino Beer Me a Movie's Podcast (the hosts introduce themselves along with what beer they're drinking that week. Great for BevMo/Total Wine connoisseurs.) The first two and the last break up their reviews of what each has seen the previous week with fun games (betting on RT scores, weekend grosses, trivia, etc). These breathe new life into a podcast, which I enjoy. Hope you give them a try! All are on iTunes and FREE! Last edited by FestinaLente; 05-29-2013 at 10:37 PM. |

Radio Five's show with Mark Kermode is great. I'd recommend that to anyone. Also, not as academic, but Peter Biskind's "Easy Riders, Raging Bulls" is a revelation for anybody interested in the New Hollywood movement of the early '70s and the directors at its core.

I couldn't fall asleep several nights ago and figured I'd kill an hour or so with that. I couldn't put it down. It was the first film book to grab me in that mystery/thriller 'okay, okay, just one more chapter then I'll go to bed' sort of way.
It's really good. |

It's on BBC website and the new podcast usually goes up on Friday evenings. It makes bad movies bearable when he goes off on one of his rants, my favourite one being The Phantom Menace 3D. His co-host Simon Mayo doesn't do as much but Kermode rocks! |
