Default Castle of Illusion (Summer 2013)

A remake, not a port of the Genesis/Mega Drive version. Not sure how I feel about this at the moment.

From Sega Blog:

SEGA, in collaboration with Disney Interactive is pleased to announce the upcoming digital release of Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse, a complete re-imagining of the iconic Genesis side-scrolling adventure first released in 1990. Developed by Sega Studios Australia, Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse will be available worldwide for digital download on Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network, and Windows PC in summer 2013.

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse first debuted on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive in 1990 to critical acclaim. Excellent controls, music, and graphics helped to bring the magic of Disney to millions of SEGA fans around the world. Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse will continue this tradition. Completely rebuilt from the ground up, Castle of Illusion has stunning visuals and new gameplay mechanics. Fans will enjoy the original storyline as they help Mickey save Minnie from the evil witch, Mizrabel.

The original Castle of Illusion was tremendously entertaining and has a well-deserved reputation as a SEGA classic. Castle of Illusion Featuring Mickey Mouse brings this great game to a new generation,” said Chris Olson, vice president of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “Mickey is back and he looks fantastic."

More info:

Read me.

"We have also been working very closely with the director of the original game, who is now at Disney Interactive. We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn’t be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles. If you have played the original game, you will also see that we have kept intact many of the major iconic elements of the game that helped define this groundbreaking game at the time of its original release."

DuckTales is being released on August 13th on the PSN. Better yet, if you have PS+, you can pre-order it and get a discount of $3, nabbing it for $12 instead of $15.

As for Castle of Illusion, there is no release date yet.

Haven't played Castle Of Illusion (the Original) at all so this game's new to me but I'm excited for previous fans to receive this update.

What was the original game like? from what I'm seein of this upgrade it's kinda shows that Epic Mickey: Castle Of Illusion used this game as a start point, correct?

I have a feelin Castle will be released next month, though Disney's missin an opportunity to release this with DuckTales Remaster

You mean Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion on the DS? It's considered a tribute to Castle of Illusion (yes, I wikied all of this).

It's coming September 4th

Pre-order on the PSN next week and get a dynamic theme, 3 avatars, AND THE ORIGINAL GAME! If only Capcom did this for DuckTales...

*EDIT* The pre-order stuff is apparently exclusive to EU, LAMMEEEEEEEEEEEEE...

I wonder if the original game will be separate and have its own trophies.
