I've added the Steelbook and the USB thumb drive to the Best Buy and Walmart threads (even though these are listed on Canadian websites for the time being).

Glad that it says the artwork isn't final. I really want something better than that generic poster image. The image of the Enterprise being chased down by the other ship would be awesome to match the first steelbook.

It seems Future Shop has given up on releasing 3D Steelbook's. IMO FS hasn't been the same since early 2010, ever since then they have really dropped the ball hard. I'm not sure if it was new management or what but something went wrong, even the boards are dead, barely any activity.

I hope a UK steelbook turns up at some point.
If one doesn't though, then someone will have to go to FutureShop for me.

On the subject of no 3D though, good! 3D is an overrated gimmick anyway!

Probably because of the metalpak deal with Disney. FS seems to have become the piggy in the middle in that whole debate. Maybe old wounds are healing slowly.

I thought that at one time too, then I saw it for myself and it opened my eyes! Count me in as one that won't be buying the steelbook without a 3D disc.

Yup, I'm happy to grab Iron Man 3 without the 3D disc in the steelbook but the 3D in Star Trek Into darkness was just astounding. Possibly the best conversion out there and just astounding in some sequences. Really added to the film for me.

The point is, that 3D shouldn't be a deciding factor when looking for a steelbook. Even when it is, there is always someone to moan that the price is too damn high!

Just, a steelbook with a 2D disc should be good enough. You're already watching it in high def! Why isn't that good enough for you 3D lovers anymore?

Because they love 3D? You've kind-of answered your own question there.

You could say the same thing about an extras disc though but I've seen you complain enough times about those missing from steelbooks. You could easily apply "Just, a steelbook with a 2D disc should be good enough. You're already watching it in high def! Why isn't that good enough for you extras lovers anymore?" to that.

And I'd say the 3D version is more relevant than extras being as it's a way of watching the film that was offered by the film-maker (yes, he was reluctant at first but Abrams later talked about how much he ended up loving the 3D version) whereas the extras are just... well, clue's in the name.

I'm not saying we shouldn't miss the extras in a steelbook. Ideally we should include everything. premium packaging and premium pricing means it should be the premium choice and include all options.
