Just revealed some details. It'll be held this year on August 12 at 2pm EST

Discretely, Sony just confirmed 3 new games (2 big ports, and one originally PS3 bound) for PS4 with the anounce of the official lineup of playable games at Gamescom.

Mmmh ... I get that the blood is probably for Bloodborne, the PS4 exclusives that is supposed to show its gameplay at GC .. but wonder what the ice/ snow is for?

Or ... Some kind of Frozen exclusivity deal with Diseny (we already know a Frozen - themed console is coming to Japan this fall), possibly with Infinity 2.0 ?

A God of War set in Nordic mythology, mayhaps? (Just kidding, but how much do you want to bet people on gaf are somehow getting the Last Guardian from it? Let's see, ice is white, snow is white...And so are the creature's feathers from Last Guardian! Appearance confirmed!)

I just hope they finally get to rolling out Planetside 2.

I'm going to say that trailer is for Until Dawn. Notice the same ice theme from the Gamescom 2012 trailer:

I've made a couple posts about the game since it went dark a couple E3s ago, I figured it would make a great title for Project Morpheus.

After all it was already a first person Move title so adding in a VR HMD would make for a pretty immersive game.

On other news, the rumor grows that Sony will officially announce 10m units sold during Gamescom
(and they will probably mention the 1.5m unit sold of The Last of Us: Remastered PS4 on day one)

Even if it was just that Microsoft had nothing to really brag about I wish Sony would take notes from what they did at E3. No blah blah blah numbers, no useless media crap and just nothing but games.

Well, Sony has more to deal with than just the PS4 though, but I agree.

They should get the Corporate stuff out of the way asap (though a strong opening is also needed).
Probably required brag about 10m PS4 (or near 10m, the orig source is Insiderp, so take a grain of salt), sales of TLOU and Destiny Beta.
As close as we are of the release, I expect a lot of Destiny stuff. Hopefully some cool and exciting stuff.

They'll have to talk about Vita as well, probably a bit about Playstation TV, and Morpheus, but then they should have a pretty strong lineup of both AAA retail and Indies.

My hopes:


Driveclub with new trailer and gameplay
Rime Gameplay
The Witness Gameplay
Everybody's gone to the Rapture update
New stuff for No Man's Sky
Bloodborne Gameplay
The Order 1886 Gameplay that doesn't look like a cutscene (aka more player control)
LBP3 gameplay

and in the "surprise" area:
- New Media molecule project reveal
- New Guerilla Games reveal (they are a Euro studio after all)
- New Housemarque IP with gameplay
- after the tease of last year, it would be great to have a Shadow of the Beast update


TLG? No Chance. (if anything, it'll be TGS)
Deep Down? possibly. But more likely to be TGS.

Gran Turismo 7? Probably TGS. Although ... Europe is a gigantic market for Polyphony, so ... probably not, but a chance.

I can't see Sony showing GT7 this year at Gamescom or TGS. It would completely overshadow Driveclub and I don't think they want that to happen. They're counting on Driveclub being a big success.

They need to move on from PS3 and they have made it pretty clear they don't care about the Vita community so I doubt they bother much with that. So PS4 could really be their only focus if they wanted. Stuff like Morpheus should be saved for CES or other tech events IMO. If Microsoft managed to avoid shoving Kinect down our throats for a change at E3 I am sure Sony can save tech for a tech show too Don't see any point talking about PS TV. The E3 announcement that it is being released outside of Asian covered Europe so the price and stuff has been known. Not like it will have anything unique to talk about. Stuff like music and video unlimited is when things get really annoying though. What does stuff like that have to do with a games conference?

They are two different types of games so it really shouldn't have any impact TBH. Just like back in the day PGR and Forza could coexist perfectly fine Driveclub and Gran Turismo could. At this point I would say they have more to worry about with Project Cars stealing any thunder from Gran Turismo than they do Gran Turismo from Driveclub. Or with Forza 5 and Forza Motorsport 2 out before Driveclub they need to counter what Microsoft are doing too as right now out of the two consoles Xbox One is the way to go for racers. So to wait too long on GT7 allows Microsoft more free time to pull in racing fans.

Actually at this point maybe they need to worry about Gran Turismo stealing thunder from Gran Turismo. The abysmal sales of GT6 compared to the rest of the series makes it pretty clear people have lost patience with it. With how stubborn and set in his ways Kaz is that isn't a good sign.

I don't expect Gameplay at all. But a teaser at TGS for 2015? Perhaps. We are way overdue for anything from Polyphony.
But then again, you're right that it might take away from Driveclub's spotlight, so again probably not.
