Question Input needed... importing a Region A player

Okay you live in Ireland and have a PS3 Region B title. You have a couple of Region A titles and a few more you would like to pick up, better audio, exclusive to Region A etc. What stand alone player would you recommend. Should i hold off for the new Panasonic Profile 1.0 player will firmware upgrades to Profile 2.0 happen with this player.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

mind you, ps3 is still my first choice, but it is difficult to import. I've heard some stories that it's being held in UK custom due to restriction to import Japanese/Asian/US PS3.... If you brought it by yourself, just like what I did, into the EU, you'll be fine, but importing? no.

Panasonic profile 1.1 (newly announced),is quite nice

You can get US PS3's from plenty ofo nline sites, and import them with no issues, other than cuistoms charges if stopped.

The importing problems were apparently in the early days before PS3 was launchd in the UK.

If I was you I'd buy a Region A US PS3, if you have a Region B PS3, sell it.

70% of Region B Blu-ray titles are actually region free, so will work on a US PS3.

PS3 games are also region free.

I have a US PS3, 20+ US region A Blu-rays, a couple of region B Blu-rays, and a selection of US/UK PS3 games, everything works fine.

Don't get me wrong I love the PS3 and may verywell pick up another down the line but i figure i would prefer to have a stand alone for the living room setup.

Then the new Panasonic model somebody mentioned (the 30) seems like the way to go unless you want to try to save some money with something cheaper (the Panasonic is $499 MSRP).

Bullseye, I presume you are talking about the newly announced and soon to be released BD30 player from Panasonic? It will never be 2.0 compliant since there is no ethernet jack (a requirement for 2.0 compliancy).

PS3 don't need that (PS2 does - I blew my japanese ps2 once). Standalone player? that depends

careful of using transformer, though. (meaning step-up/step-down).
before I knew PS3 is capable of all voltage, I use step-down to convert UK electricity to Japanese voltage. Not a good result. I connect all the AV cable to my computer directly. Over time, it slowly make the motherboard of my laptop broke, and I got to replace it, because the current is not stabile. If you wanted to test the electricity current is not stabile when using transformer, put the edge of the metal bits of the av cable on your skin. quite a strong shock.
