Wow, that certainly is cheaper than $98. They are probably just a bunch of the A2s they had collecting dust.

You know what the funniest part is? Now that the $98 A2 isn't selling as well as Toshiba originally hoped (since there are still units being reported in stock all over North America), they resort to these tactics to GIVE THEM AWAY! They have gone from trying to make a portion of the unit cost back to throwing the entire investment away!

In a backwards kind of way, this makes me happy!!!

That makes my stomach fill up with warm sick!

I am boycott for Star Trek movies and discs and tv shows until they pull back and go Blue!

Anyone has the corporate email accounts so we can tell them how much they stand to lose if this attack against BlueRay stands.

I bet they'll back down after a couple a hundred email start flooding up their in box and they has to spend hours personally writing us all back with an apology attached.

Ha ha! Take that Toshiba! Two can play that game.

On 2nd look it's not that big of a deal. It's only 120 players and you have to buy the Box Set which probably has a $199.99 list price. Amazon has it for $132.00 and it's an HD-DVD/DVD combo set.

Maybe the free Toshiba Player will make up for the fact that the disks will have problems, they are combo disks and there are 10 of them that make up the season so what is the likelihood that anyone gets a set with 10 functioning discs.

(Please note that the Star Trek Remastered set plays on both DVD and HD DVD players. It is literally the best of both worlds!)

No offense, but what did you except? The price on Star Trek TOS Season 1 on HD-DVD is way too high. What’s sad it I heard depending on how well the TOS in HD sells, well decided whether or not they’ll be redoing the TNG in HD.
If this is true they need to do two things.
1. Release TOS on Blu-ray.
2. forget that and make TNG in HD, I grew up on TNG so I'm more likly to buy them than TOS. (They have to be release in Blu-ray of course )

I don't think it's that great of a deal, virgin has that star trek HD DVD for $171.99 so they are giving you a HD DVD player you could have bought for $98. I still think 100 is too much money for one season of star trek, even though I do like star trek.

I don't think any show is worth $100 for just one season.

unless you have people boycotting and picketing in the streets boycotts don't achive anything

as for emailling them , those emails go straight into their trash can unopened.

its a waste of time.

I can see about 3000 dorks dressed up as their favorite Star Trek character standing in line at Virgin Megastores hoping to get the free Toshiba player. Too bad they aren't giving out the phaser remote control thingie that has all the Trekkies wetting their pants.

(Sorry if I offended any Star Trek fans, but FFS, the show is older than dirt)

Captain Picard wonders just how long Data was tempted (to buy HD DVD) and the android replies, "Zero point six eight seconds, sir. For an android, that is nearly an eternity."

(ST: First Contact -- scene where Data tempted to join the Borg Queen)

I know off topic but he he he im a trekkie too but wont be tempted. Im sure Data would be proud

They did it with The Matrix. What else do you expect.

Star Trek won't sell too well, its for a specific audience with lots of money to spend on the sets. Personally, if Trek was around in Blu, I would probably only get the movie set.

No offense taken Master. As I have the A20(50th surprise bday gift in June) I'll buy the TOS but as I've stated in many posts I'm now strictly Blu. Actually I'll ask for it for XMAS...but that's the last HD I'm gonna get. Hopefully by the time TOS 2 comes out it'll be on Blu. STNG I have on DVD and it may be one of the best shows ever on tv, much better that TOS, but at 7 seasons I'm not buying that(a lot of $$$)on any format even though it would look spectacular on BLU. I have to draw the line somewhere w/all these remasters.
Amazon has it for TOS S1 for $132.95

I really hated the quality of TNG DVD's video. Before I get the 1080 version I want to know if they completely remastered the show. The DVDs, I imagine, were heavily compressed to fit 4 shows per disk.

ST:TNG is still one of my all time favorite TV shows.

Good point.....W/TOS they redid a ton of the graphics scene. If you check their website they show before and after comparisons and it looks amazing. I doubt they would overhaul TNG like this because it's a much more recent show though it's hard to believe it came on the air 20 yrs. ago.

Not only is it one of your & my all-time favorite shows, it's one of the best shows, IMHO, ever on TV.
