So far both Cars and Ratatouile load up in a strange new way. Within 30 seconds you get a message indicating the movie can take 2 to 3 minutes to load and to be sure you have the latest firmware. Then the previews start.
I skipped the previews by pressing the "top menu" button. Then it started to load the BD-J portion or the movie menu. Took a minute or two, but I recall it was faster than I expected. While it was nice to skip the previews that fast, I'm not sure I like this "double load" feature. How do you guys feel about it? |

I've noticed that everything is slower and more deliberate these days since I went to Hi Def. The Sony HDTV and DirecTV take several more moments to start up. The Sony 300 Blu-ray player also requires a more methodical operation. Disks of all sorts, even SD's, require more time to load up in the 300. I don't mind.
The pace of Hi Def life is far more leisurely. And that's a relief. ![]() -Greg |

I don't think that is what it is doing. The menu doesn't load until the previews end, or you press "top menu". Unless you know something I do not know.

Its all relative. HEHE
Remember back in the day when we had to fast-forward and rewind a cassette tape. Then when they had a deck that would find the gap between songs that was a HUGE deal! Or when we had to "be kind and rewind" our video tapes. We certainly are spoiled by all this modern technology. |

Is this load time only for stand alones? I haven't noticed any load times on my BDs using my PS3.

I am not complaining about my Sony BDP-S300. Even as a second generation technology, I understand there are compromises to be made. The new firmware keeps making it better and better. Just not sure about this way of watching movies. I'm teased with 10 mintues of previews, and THEN wait some more for the main menu? A PS3 just doesn't fit into my entertainment center, it has to be dedicated player. But Sony needs to amp up the BD-J load times in these new machines for me to seriously consider a new one. 30 seconds and under for a regular BD is totally acceptable. In my opinion, they need to lighten up on the Java nonsense. While a PS3 is a gaming system, my player is not. But I suppose the point will be moot when the faster loading players come out. |

Your going to sit 2 hours through a movie, but you can't sit 2 minutes while it loads? Go pop some corn or get a drink, The load times on the S300 never bothered me, but then again, I have patients.

I haven't played the Pirates disks yet, but my new-generation 60G PS3 only takes about 5 seconds to load Blus, so I haven't come face to face with the problem yet... Only Disney disk so far has been "Meet the Robinsons", and no warning on that one. |
