I really enjoyed this. Some of it was over-the-top, as you'd expect in a story about Liberace, but I felt it had an emotional impact as well. Great performances from both Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, not to mention Rob Lowe!

While I highly doubt this will really be Steven Soderbergh's final film (how many times has he announced his retirement at this point?)
I really enjoyed the film and thought it was brilliantly well done (it would have lost it's touch had it been brought to screen by a lesser director) especially in terms of set design, costumes and the like. Also like another poster said Douglas is definitely a Hoot. |

Really great performances by everyone involved. I was shocked to learn how well HBO pulled on this considering how much trouble Soderbergh had securing funding. The movie studios really screwed the pooch on this one - it turned out to be a very good film, especially if this is to be the last film from Soderbergh. I don't think I will ever watch it again... so this release is a pass for me... but for anyone with without HBO, definitely give this a rent.

Whenever he would add a new film in before the announced date, people would make jokes, but he never announced he was retiring effective immediately, it was always timed to his 50th birthday. He stayed true to his word and retired exactly when he said he would. |

I say if HBO will be a willing partner, maybe Soderberg can keep directing via high quality made for tv movies just like John Frankenheimer in the 1990's. If he's afraid the films he likes to make can no longer get distribution, maybe this is the way to go.
