That might be intentional. To me it looks appropriate given the subject matter. Michael Douglas is a HOOT as Liberace!

From what I read, this was Soderbergh's final film as a director.

I really enjoyed this. Some of it was over-the-top, as you'd expect in a story about Liberace, but I felt it had an emotional impact as well. Great performances from both Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, not to mention Rob Lowe!

While I highly doubt this will really be Steven Soderbergh's final film (how many times has he announced his retirement at this point?)

I really enjoyed the film and thought it was brilliantly well done (it would have lost it's touch had it been brought to screen by a lesser director) especially in terms of set design, costumes and the like. Also like another poster said Douglas is definitely a Hoot.

Really great performances by everyone involved. I was shocked to learn how well HBO pulled on this considering how much trouble Soderbergh had securing funding. The movie studios really screwed the pooch on this one - it turned out to be a very good film, especially if this is to be the last film from Soderbergh. I don't think I will ever watch it again... so this release is a pass for me... but for anyone with without HBO, definitely give this a rent.

Soderbergh in top form, as expected. I will certainly pick this up. I REALLY hope it doesn't skimp on the supplements like the last run of releases.

I don't get why people always say he announced his retirement multiple times. He announced about two or three years out that he was retiring by age 50, then did as many films as he could fit in before then.

Whenever he would add a new film in before the announced date, people would make jokes, but he never announced he was retiring effective immediately, it was always timed to his 50th birthday. He stayed true to his word and retired exactly when he said he would.

Great price on this. I couldn't take this film seriously, but it was really entertaining.

Loved it, I hate he is retiring but with this and Side Effects at least he is going out on top.
Glad the Uk are getting a theatrical release

Dan Aykroyd was also good in his role as Seymour Heller, a rare non comic role for him

In his lifetime, Liberace never let the public know of his sexual orientation.

Rob Lowe was the best for me, he was like a cartoon!

I say if HBO will be a willing partner, maybe Soderberg can keep directing via high quality made for tv movies just like John Frankenheimer in the 1990's. If he's afraid the films he likes to make can no longer get distribution, maybe this is the way to go.

Yeah, I'd say watching it on there first is the best choice... it wasn't exactly what I expected

Watched it three times since Sunday - absolutely splendid. This probably won't be released on Blu-ray until January, but I pre-ordered.

He's planning on creating/directing TV shows. So look for the HBO partnership to continue. I Also expect this to win all Emmy and Golden Globes its nominated for.

He has already announced a mini-series he's doing at Cinemax:

http://www.deadline.com/2013/05/stev...ck-clive-owen/

And another with no network yet:

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/03/2...ergh-sot-weed/

His interests are just too eclectic and highbrow for features as they exist right now, glad to see he has found a home in television.
