Default HDD Upgraders: Western Digital rolls out 320GB 2.5-inch Scorpio hard drive

Western Digital rolls out 320GB 2.5-inch Scorpio hard drive

Quote:
It's not the first to boast of a 320GB 2.5-inch hard drive, but Western Digital looks to be the first to actually ship one, with its new 320GB Scorpio SATA drive now available to anyone with a hankering for some spacious portable storage. In addition to cramming all those gigabytes into a laptop-friendly package, the drive is also said to be "one of the quietest 5400 RPM, 2.5-inch drives available," with WD's trademark WhisperDrive and IntelliSeek technology promising to keep the noise down and the power consumption to a minimum. Those looking to swap out their old drive for this one can expect to pay an even $200, although you can be sure you'll be seeing it as a pre-installed option before too long as well.
Seems like a good upgrade option.

I picked up a 160GB for about 80 shipped so based on what the 250 is going for this is a great deal, but I am good for a while

Nice. If it's too expensive then I'll just stick with the 250gb hdd. I haven't upgraded yet though.

I can't even fill my 160GB yet...but this is a very nice option in the future. Maybe when the price drops a bit and I'm all out of room I'll consider it.

Nice find!

I only have about 50GB left on my 160GB. It's going fast for me. I might upgrade to a 250 soon or just start using an external HDD.

thank god for upgradability. It would honestly suck having to get a proprietary drive.

The 320 Scorpio is awesome

Just curoius as to what most folks are doing. Replacing the internal HDD in the Playstation 3 with a larger one or adding it exteranl vial USB?

Depends on your usage patterns. I'd give some thought to that before deciding..for us the internal upgrade made more sense..for others the external route might make more sense.

For example, if you keep your photos, music, home videos on a usb drive then you can move the content around to other machines and/or take it with you for travel etc..if those aren't the kind of things you do or need to do frequently then might not be a big deal.

So I'd suggest you really think about the different scenarios before deciding.

I have a 250g usb drive that has my photos and stuff.

My PS3, 60g, is doing fine on space.

Heck, my 360 still has space on its little drive. I don't download shows/movies. I buy them in hard copy format.
