Australia The 'is this worth buying' thread

I saw this thread in another area and thought it would be a cool idea to have it here.

If you are thinking about getting a movie but not sure about it, then post it here. Personally I'm thinking about buying some Anime style BDs of movies I have never seen.

For example:

Ponyo
My Neighbour Totoro
The Secret World of Arrietty
Castle in the Sky

I have never watched anything like this, well the closest would be The Last Airbender and a cool movie I found out about called Dragon Hunters which is based on a tv series too.

What are your thoughts... Anybody blind buy these yet?

The Studio Ghibli filma are AMAZING. You will not be disappointed, also make sure you grab Howl's Moving Castle (in the top 3 Studio Ghibli films).
Cannot wait for Grave of the Fireflies, one of the most moving films ever and that says ALOT for an animated film, try watching it without crying......

Personally, I did not like Ponyo as I found the main character really irritating and unlikeable. But I might be the only one.

"My Neighbour Totoro" and "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" are absolute classics. I've been watching them on VHS since a kid, I'd recommend them without a thought!

'Arrietty' is simple yet beautiful, easily my favourite of the Ghibli films from the past couple of years.

Thanks mate. Surely there are more people here that are on the fence about buying something?

A number of times I've nearly picked up The Mission but I've never yet purchased, it's a blind buy for me and I seem to be permanently sitting on the fence with it.

Yeah I'm not really fond of Studio Ghibli like every one else, have only seen Princess Monokone and Spirtied Away, although Grave of the Fireflies was great.

Not much of a blind buyer , but every now and then I may use this thread.

I wasn't too impressed with it back when I watched it, so just my opinion, rent it first.

I've only seen Grave of the Fireflies. I don't usually cry in films but that one almost got me.

Could any of you who have seen the UK series Misfits let me know what you thought of it please?

It's quite cheap on Amazon atm. I've managed to miss it on tv but it sounds pretty good. What other shows could you compare it to?

I bought the 1~3 pack. It's wicked man. Skins with a mixture of being human and fades. It's quite unique man. Check it out if you like those shows

The more you sweat in training the less you bleed in battle

The Mission is a classic. Was huge when it came out but I was too young to
know what the hell it was about. On the downside, it does it have the shittest cover art of all time for the blu.
