The Brood and Scanners Criterion on iTunes

The Brood and Scanners are both on iTunes as digital downloads and both have the iconic "C" in the corner. Is this a hint that we'll be seeing both on Blu-ray Criterion discs in the near future?

How so? This is direct conformation that Criterion are holding both titles.

It's long been known that Criterion would release Scanners (multiple hints from themselves, direct confirmation from the head of another label). The Brood has been rumored for some time, but this is the first confirmation of it.

My guess is we will see both titles announced for October.

It actually says 'The Criterion Collection' at the top of the page (after the genre listing), on iTunes.

The company that released the Black Christmas blu-ray have the rights, I believe. They just, for some insane reason, haven't done anything with it yet.

Direct confirmation or not, it still belongs in the wishlist section or in the Criterion thread.

Well maybe it could have something to do with Cronenberg too. I'm assuming they probably want his involvement, and he's been preaty busy with film projects in the last few years.

Unless Criterion announces these in the next month, with some amazing looking covers, I'll start importing the Japanese discs. They'll probably have better picture quality anyway.

Again, you troll just to troll. If the Japanese discs will "probably" have better PQ, then why does it matter when or if Criterion announces them? You should just import those and take your unsubstantiated opinion elsewhere.

Great news about The Brood and Scanners. Here's to hoping they can do a box set; but individual releases would be just fine too. Does Criterion have a history of releasing their titles on iTunes way in advance for physical media?

Since Criterion has confirmed they have the rights to The Brood and heavily hinted at Scanners already my humble opinion is it's fair to have this thread in general releases and not wish list.

Can't agree. I like those covers a lot. They have a retro look about them. Honestly though, they look like the types of covers you'd see in a box set. Most likely on individual cardboard sleeves.

They've put Eraserhead up on Hulu and iTunes. That title, compared to a good chunk of Criterion's catalog, is too well known to only get a digital download/streaming release, so it's safe to assume that it'll get a physical release. That goes for Scanners as well.

They're likely just covers made for streaming/digital distribution. You'll find covers on Hulu that don't match up with their physical releases for instance.

I've got the Second Sight blu of The Brood on pre-order (comes out next week)... Criterion will have to come up with something really impressive to make me double-dip.

Cliff from Shout Factory clarified that Lionsgate definitely holds the rights to Shivers (apparently they never license out) and that this company referenced here as holding the rights to Black Christmas (somervillehouse.org) likely has Rabid (not Shivers).
