Default The Star Wars thread (Original Trilogy/Prequel Trilogy/The Clone Wars/Extended Uni)

So I've been on a SW kick again. Watching the Blu-ray set again this time Original trilogy first and Prequels second. I'm also currently on Season 3 of The Clone Wars series.

I'm really pumped for in the CW. It better be as good as people are saying.

I also picked up the Kotobukiya ArtFX Darth Maul & Darth Vader statues which are absolutely GORGEOUS.

What order do you guys rate the movies (best to worst), which characters do you like best, and which ships do you like best?.

My favorites of the series are A New Hope and Empire. Which I like more? It's hard to say. I go back and forth quite often, but I think A New Hope might have a very slight edge over Empire at the moment. If I had to rank the original trilogy and the prequels it would look like this,

A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Revenges of the Sith
The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones

If I could throw in the Cartoon Network special, Star Wars: Clone Wars (not to be confused with Star Wars: The Clone Wars), it would land right after Return of the Jedi. I don't know how many of you have seen Star Wars: Clone Wars, but if you haven't and you're a fan of Star Wars, you must see it!

After watching The Original Trilogy (Blu-ray edition) this weekend I'm switching my rankings, Empire comes in 2nd place, Jedi in third, with Sith as #1. Time for the Prequel Trilogy.

Question, do you guys prefer watching the legacy in timeline order (Eps 1-6) or in release order (4-6, then 1-3)?

For the record, I enjoy watching them 1-6. I grew up on the originals but the prequals are just as good. It makes for such an epic story (and journey.) So before people start up with the whole Vader reveal thing in Empire let me just say that back in '80 as a five year old, Vader as Luke's father was not as big a deal as Han in carbonite was. Yes I remember the reveal scene and I thought that was cool but (back then) not true. But I saw Han get frozen and that had me mad 'cause to all five year olds, Han was the best! Sorry I don't have a source for this, its only my cherrished memories and I have a very good memory.

Star Wars are more than movies to me. They have been part of my life since '77. Whenever I rank my top 10 or whatever movies to friends, co-workers, or on the internets I do not put the Star Wars movies on them. Go ahead and check my posts.

I remember the dark times. From around 1986 until Timothy Zhan's first book in the Thrawn trilogy was published. '92 I think? It was home video for the only way to get your Star wars fix or re-reading the novelizations. I had Bantha Tracks but it was always about Indy and Willow. When the Star Wars Insider was first getting published in the early '90s, man that was great! I remember reading the letters to the editor in the first 3 issues and they brought tears to my eyes reading expiriences just like my own in the SW universe.

I'm sure this thread will turn into another slugfest with UOT complaints and whatnot but I LOVE Star Wars and wanted to share my story. Again.

Same here, but it's also going to be some time before i watch The Phantom Menace again, it truly is a profoundly mediocre film filled with 2 outstanding action sequences, namely the pod race and Darth Maul duel.

I'm also considered a heretic by friends for suggesting that Revenge Of The Sith is actually the second-best Star Wars film after Empire. Having looked again at A new Hope it actually struck me that the film has a staggering lack of character development in it, and depends on a break-neck pace after the first 40 minutes to keep the audience interested. I can see why Lucas made Empire so character-centric.

As much as I love the original trilogy I think the prequel trilogy & Clone Wars is where all the good stuff is at. We got the romance, politics, action, character development, etc. Much deeper than the original trilogy with the exception of Luke & Vader of course.

This is the first time I'm actually watching the OT first and Prequels second. Today is TPM.

Which duels do you guys like best?

I gotta go with

Maul vs. Obi/Qui (Episode I)
Ani vs. Obi-Wan (Episode III)
Vader vs. Luke (Episode VI)
Vader vs. Luke (Episode V)

Ani vs. Obi-Wan (Episode III)
Vader vs. Luke (Episode VI)
Vader vs. Luke (Episode V)
What about Ani wielding dual sabers?
For me -

1)Luke vs Vader (ep 5) - I loved this duel when I was a kid and still do. It was really tense to see an untrained Luke going up against Vader (who was scary as I didn't know that he was actually good. Not to mention not knowing what was behind the mask. It's always the unknown that spooks you . This entire duel was really well done but mostly the environment makes it . Really eerie and claustrophobic in a few places.

2)Qui-Gon vs Maul (On Tattooine in ep 1) - This was short but I love the sense of urgency in this fight, especially with the ship taking off. I like seeing new stuff like that being integrated into fight sequences.

3)Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon vs Maul (end of ep 1) - I was 9 when I first saw episode 1 in 2001 and me and my friends used to enact this duel over and over . My favorite part is the end when it's just Obi and Maul and the music is cut out with the soundscape filled with just saber nosies...

4)Ani vs Obi - I had always envisoned these two fighting on a bridge type area with a railing and lava below. I couldn't believe my eyes when I actually saw it being realised on screen. When the shields go down, the door opens and both of them go outside, and the duel of the fates music kicks in... ...that's when I thought - this is it..years and years of waiting..it's finally happening...this is it.. I wish there was more fighting up there rather than lava surfing . Is it just me or does the Yoda vs Sidious fight ruin the Ani/Obi duel? Even when I rewatch the duel, I always skip the Yoda bits.

5)Ani vs Count in ep 2- Although short, I love the dual wielding sabers and fighting in the dark..even more effective when you actually watch it in the dark. You get what Lucas was going for. It's a shame that this fight was cut short though. I'm sure there is a lot of unreleased footage. Notice that when Ani blocks Dooku's blow, both of them are standing over Obi. But when Obi throws Ani his saber, he is several feet away.

The prequels get a a lot of hate but I love them just as much as the O.T. I view them as one complete story rather than two trilogies. The thing I love is that each film has a different vibe and atmosphere while still feeling like it's part of the same franchise with the same story.

To be honest I thought it was a good move on switching them. If you watch the movies 1-6, it's Hayden's Anikin that we watched in action, it's the character that we know... not the old bald Anikin at the end. Plus, Hayden's Anikin is how he looked when he "died" and became Vader.
