Default Baaria

PRE ORDER
Baarìa Blu-ray

Quote:
Image Entertainment are set to release Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore's (Cinema Paradiso, Malena) Baarìa (2009), starring Francesco Scianna (Angels of Evil), Margareth Madè, Raoul Bova (Facing Windows), and Monica Bellucci (Irreversible). In 2009, Baaria won the Pasinetti Award for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival. Street date is October 18.

The course of a lifetime reflects the evolution of a country as young Peppino takes work as a shepherd to support his family in the Sicilian town of Bagheria, nicknamed "Baarìa" by its residents. During the next five decades he experiences the passionate love of his life, undergoes a powerful political awakening, and discovers a destiny he could have never imagined. A visual feast featuring a powerful score by legendary Academy Award-winning composer Ennio Morricone, Baaria captures the past century with a mesmerizing beauty and rare cinematic power.

I don't wish to disappoint both of you, but her role in this film is very small

I was assuming that because she's not even on the cover! Oh well...probably a fully clothed scene as well!

She appears in the brazilian front cover, but I think 5 seconds not enough for that.

However, the time she appears is very well spent

So the USA version is hacked up from 2.39:1 to 1.78.1. Image just had to do that to a Giuseppe Tornatore film too? I don't get it.

So which blu-ray version now exists with the 2.35:1 aspect ratio AND with English subtitles? The Brazilian version, right?

MODERATOR: please fix for the database.

It's most upsetting, given that the extras and even the commentary were included--and it's so rare to get a foreign-language commentary ported to a U.S. disc--but as it stands, there is no way that any consumer should support this kind of release.

For shame, Image.

Where would be the best on-line source to get the Brazilian blu-ray? Any suggestions...most aren't english friendly.

With much research, I've come to the conclusion that it's easiest to just find a Brazilian in one of these forums to hook us up with videos from their country!

I just bought a copy in Fnac in Sao Paulo where I'm based at the moment.

Their website is fnac.com.br. I have never ordered from them online, but if they are anything like Fnac in Europe, then you shouldn't have any problems.

Bear in mind, Brazilian blu-rays are extremely expensive so prepare to be shocked when you convert the currency.

well Image has some good releases and some not so good releases, but this is the first I've heard of an actual release having the wrong aspect ratio.
extremely disappointing.
I just don't even get why this would happen to a recent film unless Image was specifically supplied with a transfer that was not OAR.
I can't imagine they made a conscious choice to change it. I have to think it's one of those "prepared for hd broadcast" transfers or something like that.

I made a request for assistance with sourcing copies of the Brazilian BD here.

I looked through various webshops and in the ones that I could get through without verifying my identity, the shipping was ludicrous (usually double the price of the BD itself), so hopefully those of us who want a proper English-friendly BD of the film won't have to pay through the nose to get one.

pro-b--Yikes!
very disappointing.
wonder if there are any Image contacts around who could offer up a reason why this has happened.

I have a close friend that lives in Brazil, I will see if I can organize a Group Buy.
If it works out I will post here.

OK so after some google magic I found an internet vendor that sells Baaria.
It would be $38 each if we order 5.
