I know I done have the big bucks stuff, but I have two Polk tsi300 speakers. I had a CS20 center at one time, but sold it.
Anyway, with the center I feel like I'm missing lots of sound from the fronts. The center just doesn't seem to get everything I want to experience. It could be that I don't have a subwoofer. When I play 2ch stereo with HD movies the bass is really good. With the center a lot of that bass is gone. I think it is because the avr is expecting a sub. I have had a big sub before, a Mirage 12, so I know it's not ideal in 2ch, but to me 2ch is better than fronts and a center with no sub. Am I wrong on the bass part? I'm going to hold off on a center until I get the sub, if I'm right. Thanks. Last edited by PlasmaMan; 12-01-2013 at 03:11 AM. |

![]() However,I feel that adding the sub back into the equation is definately going to bring you back to wanting your CS20 back, ![]() |

Why would you lose bass when running 3.0 instead if 2.0?

I gather that means you can't explain why. I cannot either. Where do you suppose the bass goes?
Is the center configured as large or small? Last edited by BIslander; 12-01-2013 at 04:22 AM. |

Whenever you don't use a sub you won't have the same bass... 3.0is better than 2.0. There's more to life than bass. It seems most people on this forum are on an extremely tight budget. And everyone skimps on the audio.. Just slow down and save some money... Get a decent sound bar if you can't put a 700 dollar HT together..

Obviously the OP hasent read his owners manual for his receiver.. I'm amazed how audio deficient people are in this forum.. Not a rip. But amazing how most people don't know the basics of HT. I've started with some crap and always had it sound decent.. Most recievers have a 3-4 channel mode.. 5.0- 5.1 etc

I was responding to the post from billy13 claiming that a three channel system has inferior bass to one with just two front towers.
And, I guess my question about the large/small setting for the center goes to the OP. Configuring a center incapable of deep bass as large could reduce overall bass response. Last edited by BIslander; 12-01-2013 at 04:32 AM. |

Billy13 - What happens when you configure a center as Small so that lower frequencies are sent to the L/R speakers in a system configured without a sub?

No. LFE is a dedicated low frequency effects channel - the .1 channel. LFE normally goes to the sub. But, in systems configured without a sub, LFE is redirected to the L/R mains.
If you have a a 3.0 system, multichannel sources will be downmixed so that LFE goes to the mains and the rest of the track gets distributed to the full range speakers in the system. The center channel in a 5.1 source will go to the center channel in the 3.0 playback system. If that speaker is configured as Large, it gets everything. If it is configured as Small, it only gets frequencies above the bass management crossover. The lower frequencies get sent to the L/R mains, just like LFE. Edit: I see you changed your response from LFE to L/R while I was replying. L/R is correct and it's the reason that you can get perfectly fine bass response with a center channel, even when using a speaker not as capable of bass as the L/R mains. Bass management is the key.
