United Kingdom XTRO coming from Second Sight

Second Sight updated their Facebook cover photo with the following image.

21034595_1035084783292621_2537892449304807306_n.jpg

I wonder if they have licensed the existing HD transfer done by DigiDreams Studios in Germany.

Roger Ebert seems to disagree:

"Xtro" is the work of incompetent cynics.

That's quite a review I just read

It's exciting IF they're working from scratch and doing a new scan. If they're "borrowing" it from Krekel then it'll be a disaster

Please let this be an un-Krekel'd master! This was a childhood favorite that I've been pining for a proper BD edition of for many moons.

If they've licensed Xtro from New Line maybe they'll also get 1982's Alone In the Dark

Wait a sec, wasn't Electric Dreams also a Warner title in the UK?

Great news. Don't think this ever got a good release in the UK.

Need. I'm up for anything nasty-related. (Yes, I'm aware that this was never officially declared a video nasty, despite this and Shogun Assassin commonly being lumped in with the 72 titles).

The first Xtro is a legitimately great piece of surrealist sci-fi cinema.

The UK cinema poster said it was a "A Virgin Film release in association with 20th Century Fox through UK Film Distributors Ltd."

The VHS tape was issued by Virgin Video.

I mean, it's got a giant Action Man stabbing an old woman through a comfy chair (if I remember rightly). What's not to love! The film makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but it's got something I can't explain. I hope they do a great transfer!

A naked Maryam d'Abo getting her inner thigh sucked on a bathroom floor - in HD? Yes, please!

(I didn't imagine or misremember that, did I?)

Not sure about the thigh sucking, but she does spend a good few minutes of the film wandering around in the buff.

Any film with that plus Lou Beale from Eastenders getting attacked by a six foot Action Man is a winner in my book.

I hope Second Sight include the hilarious interview with the director from the DVD where he repeatedly admits that all his films are terrible.

While I was sorta interested in the German release, I imagine this UK blu-ray will be much easier to obtain, so i'll wait until pre-orders for this one open up.

The German release media book sounds like something Diabolik would end up getting copies of. I could be wrong but they usually don't do pre-orders on them but they just end up having some stock under latest arrivals and just sell from there.

Wonder if UK or Germany will use this as reverse or alternate artwork.

Love that New Line logo!
