Default PS/PS2 upscaler

so i uploaded the 2.1 firmware, and noticed that it has an upscaler now for the older ps games.

i really haven't had the time to test this, as i'm now engrossed in uncharted, but can anyone verify that it makes these older gen games look better than they did with the older hardware?

was pleasantly surprised with the new updates.

The games will not look better graphically. They didn't rewrite the basic code for each game. The upscaler simply smooths out jagged lines and tries to make the image a bit more pleasing following the rendering by the game itself. It is no different than watching regular tv on a 1080p monitor, the tv has an internal device that makes the image more pleasing to the eye. But, textures won't improve, resolution will not truly increase, and the game will play the same. This is not an expert opinion, and if I am wrong on some of these points, feel free to say so.

there would be no playstation without jaggies. thats what made the system that it is today. the should make every game come with an option to play a ps3 game in ps1 mode that would be awesome lol

Just tried the upscaling today with my first ps2 game. Phantasy Star Universe does look better with the smooth option on.
Now if only the virtual memory card would work better. Usually takes 2 tries for it to figure out the data isn't corrupt in the PSU game lol.

Interesting. I wonder what its causing for me. I got Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus today, had to create a virtual ps/ps2 memory card. Went in. Sometimes it says Load failed. Then I press retry, it usually works the second time and if not always the third.
