Default Paramount blu-ray

I just noticed that paramount only supports hd, but i purchased we were soldiers and payback (Paramount) both of which seemed to have poor transfers. Are there any other titles from paramount? If so are they also poor quality. Maybe this is why they switched because they didn't know a darn thing about blu ray? anyone else?

They have some good transfers like; The Warriors, Norbit, MI:3, and a couple of others. At the end before they switched they were actually doing different encodes for BD which they used AVC and for DUD they used VC-1.

Payback was intensionally filmed like that. Gritty and low color saturation. Shooter has a very nice transfer. Tomb Raider is grainy, but I am unsure if that is what was in the theatrical release or not. Paramount has had it's share of poor transfers overall though. I'm sure HD DVD owners won't even notice the difference. MI 1 is crap and a disgrace for HD. A Horrible print was used for HD.

By the way, the only reason the went HD DVD exclusive was a multi-million dollar buyout they received from Toshiba to do so. It had nothing to do with the quality of either format.

paramount are boycotting bluray so we are boycotting paramount. I don't go to any of their movies anymore and do not buy or rent their dvds. They are the reason the war is still going on they took a bribe and we are all paying for it. paramount are scumbags I cross my fingures that Beowulf crashes at the box office this weekend. Money is all they understand they don't give a shit about movie fans.

Thanks for the link to paramount and im sort of a newbie and want all my blu rays to look like underworld (lol) but the grit and low saturation of pay back is in sync with the movies tone. After reading the review of Babel, i think Ill have to get that next. What are your opinons on the cream of the crop blu rays based on video transfers?

Toshiba and Paramount have now shown their true colors. We all new Microsoft was scum. These guys all sleep in the same bed they just made for themselves. I'm waiting for the day the DIVX gremlin comes a calling for these jokers who have thrown such a large monkey wrench into this whole format war.

I usually bash HD DVD's in every post by calling them DUD's. But now I am asking this in all seriousness. Are we witnessing the slow death of HD DVD?

I ask because of three reasons.

1) The number of movies sold (what really matters in all this) continues to lean HEAVILY in blu's favor week after week.

2) Toshiba holds a warehouse clearance of old inferior machines AKA "Fire Sale" and sell 90,000 units. PS3 comes out and from what I have read sells 40,000 the first day.

3) It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that HD DVD continues to lose money and from what trends seem there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

I know I am not some marketing genius but from a layman's point of view it seems like the end has already started

I think you are correct 100%. Toshiba is doing every desperate trick in the book and then some to keep their investment going. Ultimatly it won't work though. They are just buying some time avoiding the inevidible.
