Default Question about Marvel steels

Is it worth it to collect Marvel Studio steelbooks or will I be spending a ridiculous amount of money to get everything? I'm thinking of jumping on the Winter Soldier steelbook when that comes out later on, but being a completionist I'll want to have steels for the rest of the films as well. Any advice? I'd rather not spend more than $200-230 for 6 steels.

I'm not sure how you could get all Marvel steelbooks for less than $200 or even $300. They are pretty highly sought after steelbooks, probably more so than any other, besides Disney. It's definitely worth the buy though, Marvel steels stand best chance of retaining or even increasing in value, besides Disney of course.

Trying to collect the Play.com Iron Man 1 & 2, First Edition Captain America and Thor from any country, you're lucky to get them at $75 a piece. So that's $350 right there and you'd still need Hulk, Avengers, Iron Man 3 and Thor 2. You might want to rethink collecting all if you're not willing to put down the cash for them...

If you're happy with the Zavvi Cap America and Thor, then you might be successful.

I personally think that spending over $40 for a steel (or any single film blu for that matter) is kind of overkill so I try to avoid breaking that. I just did a little searching and most of the films really do go for $50-80 everywhere, it's pretty crazy. I guess I just have to pray for a new wave of Marvel steels to come out haha.

Amarays with slips will have to do for now I guess

What about from countries outside of the UK/US? I'm just guessing here. I'm UK based and was fortunate to pick up these when play and HMV were around.

I'm not a fanatic. I didn't like the Iron Man 3 SB so didn't bother and same with the Thor 2.
However, back to original point. As an example, I recall when Avengers was released that the US had the same SB and I'm sure so did Italy or Germany. Same with Iron Man, doesn't Japan have the same steel? Anyway, I've not needed to look into prices my post was just to open up the idea that you may get the same looking steels cheaper but they'll come from Germany or Australia or somewhere other than UK/US .... Maybe

There's already been multiple versions of all of them

Not the First Edition Captain America or Thor. All of those steels command money. Less than $100 now is not likely unless you can find a bundle deal or can trade several steels for one.

Think long and hard about how bad you want them. Even if Steelbooks go out of fashion and they're worth a fraction of what you pay for them and you'd still be ok with it, then go ahead.

The ones I own have a lot of sentimental value so their worth won't change that much.

Don't forget about Blade trilogy, X-men anthology, Spiderman trilogy, Daredevil, X-Men First Class Wolverine, The Wolverine, Fantastic 4, Hulk, Ghost Rider, and The Amazing Spiderman.

Also, I am sure we will see steels for The Amazing Spiderman 2, X-Men DoFP, and Guardians of the Galaxy this year.

He said 6 steels so I was assuming he just meant the Avengers lineup But Yeah you're right. There's a lot of Marvel steels if you want them all ...

+1. They'll just be expensive pieces of tin at some point but if you really love them, go for it. I haven't pursued all the Phase I steels because I got into it too late and the prices are too high for me. But I got CA:TFA (non-Zavvi) because it's pretty and I love the movie.

The OP did say Marvel Studio steels, and the Avengers line-up are the only ones that are soley produced by Marvel studios (the others are co-productions), so he could be just referrig to those.

Now that I read the OP again and saw "Marvel Studios" I think you are right.

Correct. But those were not stated as the desired ones, just to collect marvels SBs. So it is possible to own SBs of captain America and Thor and to have all marvel character steels if that's what is wanted and for them to not be mega money. That's all I'm saying

wasn't there a rumor that disney might release all the marvel movies in steel book form here in the us at best buy? I probably never would have believed that rumor a year ago but considering best buy just did do steels for all 6 fast and furious movies it might be possible

sold spare copies of Thor & Captain America HMV exclusives for £45 when released-these now can go for £75 plus each sealed-sometimes more. It helps if you get in on the ground floor-it will cost you to get any you've missed...

I disagree - I think it is inevitable. Steelbooks are picking up popularity and when the large retailers here want to make more money on older titles - they will releaase them as steelbooks. It is only a matter of time. The fact that Disney finally decided to let Marvel/Disney steelbooks back to US should be a huge sign. My guess is it will happen this year. Mark my post and we will see
