Default Your Thoughts On Mr. Spielberg.......

I am sure we are all glad that Speilberg's CLOSE ENCOUNTERS is coming out exclusively on Blu. Most, if not all, of his other hit titles are on either Universal or Paramount and he refuses to allow them to be released exclusively on HD. But, suppose he said "OK, you can release them but only in both formats with separate mastering for each." That way we'd have access to his titles in high-def, and the two studios (and the world) could see which format sold better. Everyone also see that BD can give better picture and sound quality with disc space for more special features. He could conveivably settle the war, once and for all.

This would be a huge plus to the HDM world if both party's could watch his movies.
Nah. Lets keep'em exclusive to BD where they can really shine.

BD exclusive is the best way, plus it puts a little more pressure on Paramount and Universal to go BD-exclusive so they can cash in on his titles.

Not extras. HDM should begin and end with high bitrate video and lossless audio. HD-DVD has hitched their wagon to extras, which sometimes means they make concessions with the pillars.

This would be the worst thing Spielberg could do, you silly sillykins. He wants his movies in the best possible presentation possible, multiple lossless audio tracks and bitrates so high they make your nose bleed. That is only available on one format, Blu-Ray. Spielberg isnt into "Good Enough".

I'd like to be sure there's room on my CET3K for all 3 versions seamlessly branched in a top-notch video encode with true high-resolution audio.

...the 30Gb capacity of an HD-30 dual-layer HD DVD disc has forced studios to choose between offering a robust supplements package (as they've done here) and the very best in audio quality.
--Peter Bracke on Transformers.

Whereas that other format has run smack up against its limitations before HDM has taken even 10% of the market.

Blu-ray: No compromises.

We simply don't have to get into arguments of which of maximum PQ, lossless audio, secondary video (PiP) and extras are important. We can have them all, and let each person decide on their prefered set of important features.
