Hong Kong Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon

According to information from my distributor:

HK release date: 12/12/2013

CN Entertainment

2 Disc set - 2D & 3D

Single 2D blu-ray as well.

Bunch of audio codecs listed, but it looks like the most important one is DTS-HD MA 7.1. English subs.

Really liked the original. bummed out that Andy Lau didnt return but at 50yrs old, maybe he a lil too old to be young Dee Renjie.

Loved the first one. This one was a big disappointment. Too much wu xia, not enough story.

good as the first one or good enough since it's been a while since the last decent hk fantasy film (Journey to the West)?

Id say as good as the first. Its probly the best popcorn film/blockbuster out of HK this year.

Havent seen Unbeatable but Ive heard mostly positive things about it. Now is that worthy of a blind buy?

Well I don't own Rocky or The Fighter on Bluray, but if you like those two movies enough to buy them, then buy Unbeatable - it's the best contemporary HK film I've seen in ages.

I watched some clips of Young Dee today and it just seemed to cgi'ish to me.

Oh yea very CGI but really good CGI and imo adds alot of depth to the visuals especially if u have 3D setup (no 3D for me but seems like it might actually be pretty badass in 3D). His Flying Swords left me unimpressed but Mr. Tsui's Young Dee is quite badass.

I didn't like the original that much, I found the sequel/prequel to be much more entertaining. I agree that this movie is one of the better movies from China this year. But some of the CGI are terrible, especially in the start with all the ships.

Saw this too and its quite a fun movie. For some reason I think it's better to watch all Tsui Hark 3D movies in 3D. They look fake and the CGI is crap in 2D but stunning in 3D. Watch the 3D first if you can. I made the mistake of watching Flying sSword of Dragon Gate in 2D and turned it off the CGI was so bad. Everyone says the 3D is good though.

Also watched in 2D, omg what baaaad CG Don't like watching asian movies in 3D because of the subtitles.

Pretty good movie, very entertaining but liked the first movie more because of the better actor. I bet we will see more sequels/prequels soon enough.
