Australia Disney 3D - get set to be screwed again !

Disney 3D - get set to be screwed again !

You have to hand it to Disney's support for 3D in Oz..... or lack of it !!

Let's just release NEED FOR SPEED on 3D - and at a more expensive price - but don't even both with the extras... hell... they're on the 2D disc only.

It's becoming a habit of Disney - the latest THOR was 3D disc only.... FROZEN... I'm sure that's just 3D only now.....

then there's the older films..... JOHN CARTER... the 4th PIRATES.... CARS 2 ... just the 3D at a higher price.

Little wonder no one wants 3D .. Disney doesn't.

Disney have never been consumer friendly. They are just continuing there trend. It will continue costing them sales though. I wanted to get Thor 2 recently, but $45ish for just the 3d film. Yeah, i'll just buy a film from a company that can provide at least semi-decent value. As they don't want to do that, my money has been going elsewhere.

Disney products go through sales periods. When they are on sale, they are dirt cheap. Otherwise, they are full RRP. Just wait for the sale like we do for everything.

For example: Pirates 4 (3D only) was $16 at JB. The 2D is $12.

Regarding the 3D, you can still find the 2D+3D copies floating around. Frozen was especially popular though, so that might be harder. 3D only releases are only rubbish if your player can't watch them in 2D and the bonus features are missing. I do agree on them skimping out on bonus features, especially for the upcoming Sleeping Beauty BD.

Personally, my customer experience with them were great. I called them twice, the first time they posted me a Meet the Robinsons slick because my copy had the ugly silver slash. The second time they sent me a copy of 101 Dalmatians (BD only) because they accidentally sent me the BD+DVD copy. They didn't ask me to return it so now I have both on my shelf

Really disappointed with Disney. No reason to completely ignore the 3D market.

I couldn't careless about their releases including a DVD disc. Just give me a BD and 3D-BD and I'm happy. He'll even though I redeem them I really don't use DC that much.

When you tell your tv/player to just play a 3d disc in 2d your tv still changes settings and acts as if it is running in 3d which nearly always results in worse pq. For $20 months after its first release they should still be including the 2d and 3d versions together, pressing a disc costs a few cents at most.

oh... I forgot to include MONSTERS UNIVERSITY 3D as another 'screwed' title......we of course miss out on the extras discs that the 2D got......

heading to the US in a few weeks... let's hope for some specials on the Disney titles I found last year (think I grabbed Monster Inc 3D for $20 at Toys R Us ... kinda 'sad' having to but discs from there !)

Most tv's/projectors change settings in the background when it detects 3d. This for example in my vt60 results in worse black levels, contrast and the colors accuracy is notably lessened (presumably to take into account the color shift through the glasses). In my front projector (w7000) the difference is smaller but still noticeable. It is essentially a result of the tv not realizing you are not watching it in 3d and thus 'changing' modes to increase the brightness of the display etc. That is why tv's/projectors use more energy when playing back 3d content as apposed to 2d content.

Cheers
im quite interested in checking this out
I know when you put a 3D disc in and it boots up that the display automatically identifies a 3D disc is playing and switches it over to one of the 3D picture settings ramping up the brightness but I thought when you selected 2D on the display remote it then reverted back to the last picture setting that the display had been using ?
also what happens in the case where the disc asks you whether you want to play in 2D or 3D which in some discs is the case ?
as I said earlier I cant say its something that iv ever noticed before not that I have done it a lot as there is only a handful of 3d discs I own that iv watched in 2d (usually when I have the niece and nephew around or my daughters watching something)

not on any tv i have seen.

also what happens in the case where the disc asks you whether you want to play in 2d or 3d which in some discs is the case ?

this is the same as a 2d disc and 3d disc being included. The issue is when the source is 3d only and you force the tv to only display one of the images for a 2d image. If the blu-ray gives you the option of 2d as well, when you select tv the display will act as per usual as if it where any other 2d blu-ray. However when you select use the diaply to only display one of the two images that create the 3d then the source is still passing a 3d signal and thus the tv still runs as if it is producing a 3d image. There may be some tv's that don't do this, but i have yet to see one. Hence it remains an issue and disney really need to offer there packages with both 2d and 3d. If they are only providing one the discs should be discounted (which is not what has happened, if anything the prices have gone up).

as i said earlier i cant say its something that iv ever noticed before not that i have done it a lot as there is only a handful of 3d discs i own that iv watched in 2d (usually when i have the niece and nephew around or my daughters watching something)

it is more annoying as some of these issue prevent as from seeing a film like top gun in 2d as it was intended with the best transfer available.
aib.

I'm sorry Suntory, but what Beechy stated is accurate in my experience. Both my Samsung D8000 and VT60 plasmas revert back to my 2d settings when I press the 3d button and select 2d to watch the AVC stream.

You Aussies should be thankful you're still getting 3D titles from Disney at all. Other than Marvel movies, Disney hasn't released anything new in 3D here in the States in months -- not even Frozen. We're having to import from countries that got 3D releases, mostly the UK but in some cases (i.e., Need for Speed) even Australia.

That is weird as my vt60 does not. Nor did my px950 or does my w7000 or numerous other tv's I have used.

I agree with Cevolution. My VT60 plasma reverts back to my 2d settings when I press the 3D button and select 2D to watch

Strange, I shall have a look in my settings to see if something is amis there. Point remains that at least for some displays it remains an issue, and even if it wasn't that is still not a good reason for disney to not include the 2d playable in the source. What if you want to play the film you have paid for on a non 3d tv?

Going to close this thread guys, de-railed into Home Theatre / TV / Blu-Ray Player discussion, plus in the end it's just Disney bashing.
