Question Are Smart Phones already smart enough?

Both Samsung and Apple have been facing declining Sales. Is this simply a manner of economics? In part I would say, "Yes." Getting a new phone you don't need every year or two gets expensive in this touchy economy.

Or have users simply wised up to the modest gains new phones provide and don't find the cost and transfer of data worth the trouble?

Do Smart phones need 32 bit dual and quad core processors? I say yes as the older phones did handle the simple stuff, albeit a bit more slowly. 64 bit CPU's are complete overkill in my opnion unless there is some technological benefit other than speed and multitasking 1/10th of a second faster.

Do Smart phones need 4GB+ of RAM? Sure. O/S improvements and ever growing (gaming) apps certainly almost rivals console and PC games. Maybe that 64 bit CPU does have a place.

Do Smart phones need true HD+ resolutions? It is a marketing selling point which only benefits the segment of the population who can discern such small details. Namely, younger people who generally have better vision. Do we really need 4K phone displays?

How many megapixels do camera's need to be? If the resolution is greater than what a 4K HDTV can display, then it is wasted space unless you are printing enlargements and cropping edges. Megapixels does not make great photos. Proper lighting does!

What about the front facing camera? Roughly 2.3 megapixels give you a full 1080P facetime with your friends. Kind of overkill as it is still difficult to get such bandwidth using 4G. How often do you find (free) WiFi which supports such bandwidth? If you are doing it at home, then just go in the next room and talk to your family face to face!

What more can we expect of Smart phones that we keep needing to upgrade? Once you have the best of everything a Smart phone can potentially do, is more speed, RAM or megapixels really giving you anything except a technology boner?

Revolutionary software is the key. Much of it will already run on your older phone if the phone manufacturers will push the upgrades. As we sometimes see with Android and IOS.
