Default 2013: Your AUDIO Investment

Welcome to our SIXTH Annual poll of your audio-only investments.

This poll is based on your TOTAL AUDIO INVESTMENT, and may include that of your HT setups and other systems.

This is NOT a poll for upgrades only.

Please be guided by the following before voting:
1. Include your A/V Receiver - Power Amp - PrePro - Integrated Amp
2. Include your Speakers - 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.1, etc.
3. Include your source - Analogue Playback, Digital Playback, Streaming.
4. Include your Cabling (Power/Speaker/Interconnects)
5. Include your Acoustic Room Treatments
6. Include any/all TWEAKS you have introduced to attain higher fidelity

The poll options are the same as last year.

Have fun, enjoy, keep it civil and make some new friends while you're at it!

Although I would like to do some more upgrades in 2013, I don't think it's going to move me up into the next level, although that is a small possibility. As such, I'll refrain from voting.

I did the same thing last year and am glad I did, as I finished with a flurry of upgrades in December!

There are 2 things I want to try and get this year. One is a new tonearm for my Nottingham Horizon SE and the other is a proper phono-stage (preferably tubed). I haven't honed in on any specific brand or model just yet, but I have started sending out some inquiries about compatibility and such to a few companies. If push came to shove and I could only do one thing, it would be the tonearm.

Hi John. This is the first year since I've gotten into HT that I'm not planning any upgrades. Maybe next year.

Hi Robert! You know what? That's actually the best position to be in! And if I had your setup I'd do likewise!

Nothing major planned for this year after last years upgrades, and nothing that will get me beyond the $50k mark, so safe for me to go ahead and vote.

How's the system humming along Alex? Those XPR-1's are beasts and they look great!

Hope to add another sub for sure and maybe a PJ setup. Should stay in the same category though.

Sounding great! Really let it rip last night and was amazed at how much power those things have. No issues whatsoever with higher volumes; it was really impressive. Your Genesis speakers should be arriving soon right?

Alexia, you mean you're not going to buy an Emo DAC or a PS audio DAC, C1s for surrounds and a music server/streamer to replace your SB? You keep on telling me every week about your planned upgrades. Did you change your mind again, Fartley???

Nice! New Year's Eve and Rock 'n Roll! I'm anticipating them to get here on the 4th, maybe the 5th. Only a few more days, but it feels longer than that!

I can definitely relate on waiting for speakers! Don't feel too bad, had to wait 4 months for the sapphires and close to a month for my current speakers.. It's ok a few more days won't kill ya You'll have them soon enough.

Given the new amp and the cartridge, plus now the speakers my system is going to sound so totally different. A bit scary, but exciting at the same time!

I'm looking forward to voting on this one, but I'll hold off until nearer the end of the year. I have a couple of upgrades planned/hoped for, and it'll take me a while to save up the cash...

Thanks for making it a public poll, John!

You're welcome Rich! Do I perhaps see an Alnic phonostage in your future?

Hello Robert - A few more days and I'll be able to sit back and get to know it. On paper it all looks good, so I'm anxious to find out. I'll probably list some impressions after a day or two.

After finishing the Fried SM subs and hooking up the Onkyo PR-SC 5508 I am planning a light year for 2013.

We are building a house so I will do some upgraded and dedicated wiring and circuits and possibly some room treatments... no big money on A/V this year!

I do plan to rock and roll!!!

Currently at the top of my drool list is an Audio Research Reference Phono 2 SE, but the Allnic H3000V is also a honey!

After a relatively mild (read: Didn't do a thing to the main system) in 2012, 2013 will have plenty of bang to it. Clicked in for 7.5 to 10, with the following upgrades in mind:

- New front three (Sonus Faber Venere 2.5 + center) in January
- New receiver/processor (Marantz 6007 main candidate) in February
- Custom acoustic panels (to resemble art from Kandinsky, Mondrian, and Picasso) for that big two-story wall I have that's currently blank in April, May
- New headphones (since, well, there's a, uh, lady entering the picture. Just in case. I was using my Senn HD201s the other day while she slept and I nearly watched on mute out of frustration.) in February
- New BDP source (Sony S790 - say, does this count? Since it's replacing my Pio DV48 as a SACD player?) in January
- Upgrade the (4) surrounds - later in the year, to SF on-walls or Martin Logan EM surrounds - in October, November

Say, I need to see what that Sean and Alex cost-of-living is like. Or maybe it's that dual income money that Alex has, . Why does it have so dang cold up North?! Anti-JJ weather.
