it seems its a TV Adaptation of the original movie..

from wikipedia:

Ghost in the Shell: Arise (攻殻機動隊ARISE -GHOST IN THE SHELL- Kōkaku Kidōtai Araizu -Gōsuto In Za Sheru-?) is a four-part OVA series that serves as a re-imagining of Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell. The four-part series features new character designs and is directed by Kazuchika Kise, screenplay by Tow Ubukata, and music by Cornelius.

Episodes[edit]

The first of the episodes (referred to as "Borders") in the series, subtitled Ghost Pain, saw a limited cinematic release in Japan on June 22, 2013.[4] The official website states that the series is set in the year 2027, a year following the end of the non-nuclear World War IV. A bomb has gone off in Newport City, killing a major arms dealer who may have ties with the mysterious 501 Organization. Public Security official Daisuke Aramaki hires full-body cyber prosthesis user and hacker extraordinaire Motoko Kusanagi to investigate, but on the case with her are "Sleepless Eye" Batou who believes Kusanagi is a criminal, Niihama Prefecture Detective Togusa who is investigating a series of prostitute murders he believes are related to the incident, and Lieutenant Colonel Kurtz of the 501 Organization who also wishes to keep an eye on Kusanagi.[5][6] A recurring part of the episodes will be the mysterious Fire Starter (ファイア・スターター Faia Sutātā?) computer virus, as well as looking into the lives of Batou and Togusa before the formation of Public Security Section 9.[7] The theme for Ghost Pain is "Jibun ga Inai" (じぶんがいない?, "You Are Not Alone") composed and arranged by Cornelius, lyrics by Yura Yura Teikoku's vocalist and guitarist Shintaro Sakamoto, and performed by salyu × salyu.

Border 2: Ghost Whispers will see a similar limited release on November 30, 2013.

Manga[edit]

A manga original story titled Ghost in the Shell: Arise ~Sleepless Eye~ (攻殻機動隊ARISE~眠らない眼の男 Sleepless Eye~ Kōkaku Kidōtai Araizu ~Nemuranai Me no Otoko Surīpuresu Ai~?, literally "The Man With Eyes That Do Not Sleep") began serialization in Kodansha's Young Magazine's April 2013 issue, released March 13, 2013.[4][8

I just saw the first episode and I really like it! It's ambitious, high-concept sci-fi with great production values. Hoping for a complete collection once everything is released. Definitely a worthy entry in the GITS brand.

I watched the japanese bluray yesterday, and I would even go as far as to say that the dolby trueHD track is among the most spectacular I've ever listened to! Amazing presence in the surrounds and incredible bass - from the beginning to the end.

I really really enjoyed this first story, everything (animation, design, sound,...) looks so ahead of its time.

it seems that every one of the smaller territories releasing Japanese stuff with English subs has effectively been regarded as a leak to be plugged. korea was one, Taiwan another.

korea is still relatively expensive, of course, compare to other places, so $37 is only slightly over what I'd expect.

This was the Funimation 'import' release, and it looks like they will not be doing this for the other volumes. I hope they do, but I haven't heard anything about them doing it again.
