Default where have all the old school cheats gone?

Back in the old days, after I'd played through a game, e.g. Sonic/Sonic 2 or whatever, I'd end up trawling through some magazines and finding the old left right up down a b a b do... (you get my point) cheats to do various things.

Searching around and it seems I can't seem to find these exploits for games like RFOM or GRAW2. Anyone know of em'?
I'd love to beable to just go through the games in God mode or with some uber weapons, or fly. It's all good .

I've noticed more games recently having a menu option for cheats. This way you enter words or special button combinations (like Guitar Hero III), to activate the cheats. Once entered correctly they stay availabe to you in the menu and can turn them on and off as you wish.

Going back to old school games it seems less and less games are giving you that old feeling of pressing button combinations at the menu screen, pause menu, etc.

Not really cheats, just back doors the programers would use to tweak the games, then release to the public for those gamers with no skills.

I've heard that not as many cheats are being allowed because of achievements. I don't reallly care about achievements, but liked having some cheats to have a little more fun in less time.

Lots of cheats these days have no imagination... usually infinate this or stop the clock or win with one punch/one lap.

I like the humorous cheats (which are only usually obtained through an action replay or similar which alter code) that make your characters have massive heads or turn you into something else. I had a code for Tekken 3 to swap character moves between bodies. (Quite funny when you see a girl prancing around like a boxing dinosaur). I also had codes to unlock the developers debug modes for Final Fantasy VII + VIII, which let you wander through 'rooms' listening to any audio, watching any video, giving yourself all items and jumping to key parts of the game. All not possible without the code altering action replay.

But on the subject of classic cheating I can still remember some classic cheats from old PS1 games that didn't require action replays, just good old fashioned button combinations or name entries.

Colin McCree Rally on PS1, you could put in a cheat so half way around a course it'd go dark, your car would stall and a spaceship would beam you up and replace you with a chrome-green-jelly-hover-car.

Toca Touring car had cheats for a micro-machines style top down view with mini cars. Also had a hidden track called Lava Land.

Die Hard Trilogy, they had some really stupid codes. I consider these 'cheats' only because they were always found in the cheats section of games magazines.

Resident Evil something-or-other you could enter a code to play as a piece of tofu.

wipEout 2097, if you held a certain combination of buttons from the PS1 boot-up all the way to the title screen you go to play at robot-hover-animals instead of the usual craft.

I'm all for earning rewards, unlocking costumes, tracks, awards and vehicles, but where is the fun element gone? I like cheats for stupid things!! It's nice to know developers have a sense of humour and are not just being whipped to produce something thats got to sell for graphic and no gameplay.

I love the old school cheats...

Gran Theft Auto comes to mind where you can unlock certain things by pressing like L,L,U,D,R,triangle, square, etc etc
