Hi...I just got my new sony XBR4 52 Inch LCD....and I noticed at the top left corner where the black bars are there is a very very very faint white haze the comes from the corner diagonally out. You only notice it on blacks. Is that just some of the glow from the backlighting? or something wrong with pixels???? Only had the tv a week.

larger displays have a harder time transfering light evenly accross the thin panel. Its the backlight, and its normal. try turning down the brightness of if it has a energy saving function try that, and you will see it less.

turn it on, It will dim the whole screen, but its the backlight that is causing the patchy white haze on the black screen.

I've been selling T.V.s for 6 years and Sony has always had the best LCD. Not the XBR4 though. The one in my store(46") has all four corners "pinched" with those white marks. Really annoying for something that is Sonys' best! I just put the new Samsung "71 series" right beside it last week - Sony has officially lost top spot in a big way. That samsung is absoutely CRUSHING that XBR4!!!!! I say take it back and exchange it for the 52" 71 series Samsung. If your going to charge the most and tell everybody your the best you better accutally be the best!!!

Relax......Samsung is not immune to problems. The XBR4 is highly regarded in reviews. |

The other option is to call Sony and have them send a tech to check it out under warranty. |

You could always look at the KDL52W3000 Sony Bravia LCD. I'm in love with it. Plus, one advantage to it is that if you decide to mount it to the wall, its frame is designed to look like a picture frame... very shiek!!!

The KDL certainly DOES have 24p!!! At least, that's what my KDL tells me when displaying the resolution details from 1080p/24 sources. The only differences between XBR4 and KDL is that the XBR4 supports 120Hz and has the motionflow technology. When it came to the price difference between the two, I realized that the KDL was a better choice given that a lot of people have been stating polar opposite opinions about the motionflow and that the KDL frame is much more appealing than the XBR4.

I have the XBR3 and read plenty of the non-sense about "clouding" before I purchased mine. Suffice to say not only my set DOES NOT have a single shade of it but after proper calibration it simply looks stunning.
To the OP: If you like your set then do not return it. Adjust the settings and as already mentioned lower the back light. The XBR4 is a top-notch set and I would not trade it for the new Samsung no matter what (and yes i have seen the new Sammy at our ABT Electronics). Ciao, Pro-B |
