Default HD DVD cheaper than Blu? Yeah right!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and I'm also a supporter of Blu Ray discs. They are amazing.

Anyhow, this thread is about some claims people make that HD DVDs are cheaper than blu rays. I'm not going to argue about the players. I know that HD DVD players are cheaper than blu ray players, but I don't find that the movies are.

I was in Wal-Mart the other day and I was browsing the HD section (HD DVDs and blu rays) and whenever I came across a movie that was on both formats I always found that the blu ray version is cheaper. For example, I saw TMNT on both formats. It was $28.94 on blu ray and $34.94 on HD. Same thing with 300. $28.94 on blu ray and $34.94 on HD. Hell I even bought a blu ray movie for $15 once. The cheapest I've ever seen an HD DVD was $25 and that is very rare. As a matter of fact, I saw an HD DVD movie that cost $49.97!!

So is it maybe just like this where I live (Canada) or are HD DVD supporters just not aware of the facts? Has anybody else seen this, or am I hallucinating?

yea, i think a lot of people say hd-dvd is a cheaper format simply because the players are cheaper. And then they get pimp slapped with dvd costs =) wooo!

This is because many hd-dvd's are combo disc with the dvd on one side and the hd-dvd on the other side.

Its true that the reason that many HDDVD versions are more expensive is that they are HDDVD/DVD combo discs. However since virtually all combo-format movies are NOT available in HDDVD-only versions, the point still stands.

Im sure all of us would be annoyed if we were forced to pay $5 for a feature we might not want.

Yes I know why they are more expensive. The thing I'm wondering is why people say the HD DVDs are cheaper than blu rays when they clearly aren't.

U cannot compare a combo disc to a BR disc. Of course they will be more. You are getting more.
