Default Favourite moment in each of your top ten films?

We all have our favourite films, but is there a moment in each that for you makes it memorable, you connected with, made you smile or made you emotional in some way?

Please post your own personal reflections.

As for me...

2010: The Year We Make Contact
[Show spoiler]The moment where Dr.Floyd is resting and receives a message from HAL from David Bowman, leading to their first meeting.

Alien
[Show spoiler]When Brett goes looking for the alien...and finds it.

Creepshow
[Show spoiler]When Richard meets his end in the story 'Something To Tide You Over" and his last lines.

Halloween
[Show spoiler]The ending of the movie and Michael's disappearance - cue music!

In The Mouth of Madness
[Show spoiler]The car journey to Hobb's End.

Jaws
[Show spoiler]When Chief Brody finally sees the Great White up close and says "You're gonna need a bigger boat"

Man of Steel
[Show spoiler]The final battle between Zod and Superman - "You're a monster Zod, and I'm going to stop you." I have to say though, that the beginning of the film with Kal's birth, placement and launch in rocket and Krypton's destruction as Lady Lara looks on made me emotional.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
[Show spoiler]How the main villain is captured at the end. However, anything with Rebecca Ferguson is a close second!

Narrow Margin
[Show spoiler]When Robert Caulfield is confronted on the train by the two hitmen and the lead one has a conversation with him about giving up the girl, with Caulfield claiming he doesn't know who the woman is. However, it's the 'why he enjoys his job' speech for me.

'Salem's Lot
[Show spoiler]When Ben Mears finally defeats the vampire against a swinging light with more vampires approaching him he's not aware of. The Susan epilogue is a close second.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
[Show spoiler]The conversation between Kirk and Khan leading to "Khaaaaaaaaan!". However, Kirk and Spock's final conversation is something special too.

Superman: The Movie

[Show spoiler]When Superman flies Lex and Otis to the prison, the warden thanks him and Superman says "No, don't thank me Sir. We're all part of the same team. Goodnight."

The Exorcist
[Show spoiler]Father Karras' response to the possessed girl's mother when she asks him he she's going to die, where he says "No" and suddenly his whole demeanour changes and he's found his strength.

The Exorcist III: Legion
[Show spoiler]Any of the conversations between Lt. Kinderman and the Gemini Killer

The Prophecy
[Show spoiler]Any scene with Christopher Walken!

2001: A Space Odyssey
[Show spoiler]HAL's death scene. "Stop, Dave. I'm... Afraid. My mind is going... I can feel it. There is no question about it. My mind is going. I can feel it." P.S. 2010 was a terrible sequel IMO.

The Big Lebowski
[Show spoiler]"It's like Lenin said, you look for the person who will benefit and... and uh... uh..."
"I am the walrus."

That or this laugh.

The Castle
[Show spoiler]Just the vibe of the thing.

Psycho
[Show spoiler]The parlour conversation and the part where she's being haunted by the casual suspicious pursuit of the police.
"I think we're all in our private traps. Clamped in them. And none of us can ever get out. We scratch and we claw but only at the air, only at each other, and for all of it we never budge an inch."
"Sometimes we deliberately step into those traps."
"I was born in mine. I don't mind it anymore."
"Oh but you should! You should mind!"
"Oh, I do! But I say I don't!"

The Prestige
[Show spoiler]The twin reveal and the final words of Jackman's character.
"The world is simple, solid, all the way through, but if you could make them believe, just for a second... you never knew did you? Why we did this? It was the look on their faces."

Midnight Cowboy
[Show spoiler]The last scene with Dustin Hoffman's character, and his death next to his most loving friend.

The Miracle Worker
[Show spoiler]The kitchen scene. 9 minutes of 2 incredibly strong willed women battling it out over how to eat breakfast.

Barton Fink
[Show spoiler]Charlie's return and speech.
"Sometimes it gets so hot I feel like I could just crawl right out of my skin."

Blade Runner
[Show spoiler]Hard to pick between "Tears in the Rain" and when he meets his maker. No I mean the scene where he literally talks to his designer.

I can accept that 2001: A Space Odyssey is a groundbreaking film in cinema and much like the argument of The Exorcist vs. Exorcist III, only one will be remembered universally in that regard. However, much like The Exorcist III people are too quick to dismiss 2010.

I'd really like to know your reasons.

IMO, 2010 is a more conventional film than 2001. It has a great story, it has a great and charismatic actor in Roy Scheider, well directed by Hyams and unlike 2001 I find it an easier film to watch. What grates on me a little about 2001 after a while is how artificial and lacking in any emotion the actors are in presenting their characters. There is very little dialogue either. I'm sure this was a conscious choice on behalf of Kubrick (love to know why), but it does jar with me a little.

Dang, it's hard to pick just one from any of these. About as hard as figuring out what my current top 10 is.

Koyaanisqatsi:
[Show spoiler]The finale, and it all finally makes sense.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King:

Star Wars:
[Show spoiler]The Battle of Yavin

The Matrix:

The Dark Knight:

Terminator 2: Judgment Day:

Raiders of the Lost Ark:

Kill Bill Vol. 1:
[Show spoiler]Pretty much the entire last half hour.

Wall-E:
[Show spoiler]That part where Eva gets fixed and Wall-E thinks she's getting tortured. You know, the scene before this one:

The Passion of the Christ:
[Show spoiler]Can't just pick any one specific scene in motion, so here's a still of my single most favorite shot that hits me the hardest:

To me, 2010 did all the things people didn't like to 2001, maybe just not as much, without doing much of any of the things which people did like about 2001. It was slow, there wasn't much action, the characters were not that 3-dimensional, it was still far from being a conventional watch. But it still lacked the creativity of 2001, the things that made it weird in a good way. The story, well, first, the story doesn't need a sequel, I don't know why Clarke continued it, but all the story does is "clarify" the ambiguities of the original that make it such a thought provoking piece of work. The attempts at making the story more "exciting" failed to me. The technical brilliance and realism of the world created is gone. Very little impression is given of how this new ship works, and it seems far more bulky than necessary. No longer do you see any attention paid to the effects of weightlessness on board and centripetal gravity, nor is space silent, and futuristic flat-screens have been replaced by crappy old CRT televisions. A lot more of traditional film cliches are present but without the surrounding mood to make them seem charming or exciting and instead they feel clunky and out of place. The film asks very little in the way of interesting questions about the nature of man or evolution, and reduces the thoughts on HAL's A.I. to "Well he was just programmed badly, but he's really a nice guy".

So those are some of my reasons.

Without going into too much detail there's a lot of reasons for the way the characters communicate. From a strictly narrative point of view they are strictly trained astronauts (trained to be able to handle difficult situations without excitement) who have been isolated together a long time and have run out of things to say to each other. Thematically it shows the progression of humanity to a more efficient, pragmatic being becoming further apart from it's roots and the contrast between the unemotional astronauts and HAL's paranoid, passive-agressive behaviour invite the viewer to further question what real emotions are and whether the computer could be as or even more human than the humans. The emotionlessness of humanity could be seen as a step towards the "superhuman" aliens and what Dave becomes towards the end of the film.

It's funny how that bag scene is so polarizing. I personally loved that scene and it what stands out to me as well in American Beauty.
