United Kingdom To open or not to open that is the question?

I have just recently started collecting steel books, and while talking to a collector friend of mine ( he collects anything Bruce lee) he was saying that's it is sacrilegious to open anything collectable. I my self open all the steel books that I buy, as I feel DVDs/blu-rays should be watched. I was just wondering what every one else's take on the subject of opening steelbook is?

Depends on why you're purchasing them I guess.

There will be collectors, who purchase them to have them in their collections, to be potentially sold or traded at some future point. And then there's those, like me, who just want the movies, but in a nice durable storage medium.

Personally I couldn't imagine buying a SB without the intention of watching it. To me it would be like buying a classic sports car but then having it sat in the garage until I sold it, occasionally going out to admire it in the meantime. But then, I'm not a collector.....

I open all my collectable items. I buy them to enjoy for myself, not to sell on, so the fact they become rare is of little interest to me.
I only buy the items that interest me and as which want to get the most out of them.
Open and enjoy people, open and enjoy!

If you don't use the product (Blu-ray in this case... pun intended), you are collecting for all the wrong reasons.

I open mine the second I get them so I can look at it in all it's wonder and enjoy if fully. I can see why people don't open it but I don't think they are enjoying it to the fullest.

I open all of mine, I buy them to watch because I love movies and I buy the best looking case to me.

If the desire is to make money, there are a lot better things to invest in.

I do buy steels and occasinaly a digibook. I open them as well to enjoy. I kept a bunch of comics I collected when I was a kid, keep them in bags their in mint shape. The local comic book shop wouldn't even look at them when I decided to sell them. So now if I buy I'm gonna enjoy it.

Open them.
If you're collecting them to make a profit, then you're collecting them for the wrong reason.
