Default Metropolis (anime) for UK/Euro release (December 04, 2006)

http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/RCS/...s/Product.html

I found it over there.

Too bad though that it only carries an English track (although I'm not sure as to who are the dub actors). Lest, I haven't even heard of both Jap and Eng voices so I won't judge.

It will use the English PCM 5.1`soundtrack and it will be in anamorphic widescreen or letterbox (as usual). Running time is 104 minutes (approx.)

Nevertheless, it is the FIRST REGION-B anime title for Blu-ray.

Now release Madlax, Fate/Stay Night, .hack//roots and the entire Ghost in the Shell library (1st movie, SAC 1st gig, SAC 2nd GIG, 2nd movie: Innocence and 3rd movie: Solid State Society) on Blu-ray right now.

Now that will mark the existence of anime on Blu-ray.

Its sux that they only have the English dubs. Not that I could get the release anyway, but hopefully when it comes to the US it will have the Japanese track.

It's funny, personally preferences, because I never listen to the Japanese tracks for Anime, always the English dubs when available. I figure, it's animated anyway, and I don't understand Japanese. Now, live action material - I would never listen to dubbed audio.

There's nothing anamorphic about Blu-ray 1080 (BD uses square pixels) and Metropolis won't be leterboxed because it's an 1.85 movie so it will be basically Fullscreen (Well it could be slightly letterboxed into 1038 x 1920 1.85, if that's what you meant)

On the other hand, 4:3 coded and 16:9 coded DVDs are BOTH "anamorphic" as none of them (including PAL and NTSC) have square pixels. (That's why I call them 4:3 coded and 16:9 coded instead of (wrongly) calling just one of them 'anamorphically enhanced")

I wish BD was "anamorphic" so that way a Scope 2.39 movies would be squished into utilizing almost the full 1080 x 1920 instead of just 803 x 1920 and Academy 1.375 movies would be squashed into utilizing almost the full 1080 x 1920 instead of just 1080 x 1485 but I'm not the BD CEO

My PAL DVD of Metropolis has the original Japanese language track plus subtitles. It's a nice disc.
Maybe the play.com listing is not complete? One can hope. It's pretty old.

Therein lies the big question. Hopefully someone will get it that has an A player. I'm hesitant to import without an idea.

Depends.

But as now, I tend to prefer official English dubs rather than Japanese orig dubbing. A few examples include: Azumanga Daioh, ROD the TV and probably for Negima as well.

Now there may be a few exceptions to my rule (ie. Mai-hime, Mai-Otome) while others just tend to be equal (ie. Ghost in the Shell franchise dubs done by New Generation Pictures/Animaze and Cowboy Bebop TV series and movie)

Mixed bag indeed but generally, it's still english dubs > Jap audio.

As for the english dub of Metropolis, I've heard that it's done by Animaze and I've seen their track record for voice quality. Question is, I don't know as to who are the voices respectively so I can't give any concrete say.

You'd just have to watch it to find out and if you already did then.....

P.S.

To any UK/Euro peeps who plan to buy this flick, I hope that you can give some feedback and share it with the rest of us.
