This is one I've been wanting to see for a while and my most anticipated release of theirs for a while.

Do they charge upon shipping or immediately when I preorder?

I saw this at the theater and the atmosphere of the film really creeped me out. Look forward to seeing it again.

Got my pre-order about a month ago. It’s dual format, which I found useful for the first 5 years before adopting BD but do wish they’d dispense with the extraneous DVD. According to Amazon, the Limited Edition extra is “Limited Edition O-card” on the first print run of 2000 pieces. I’m not sure what an O-card is (“Overlay” card? a fancy slipcover, or perhaps I’m way off mark).

In any event, not recalling the finer points of CURE, I do remember feeling genuinely creeped out by it, unlike PULSE (aka KAIRO), which I found derivative and morbid. Yes, PULSE’s subject matter was morbid, so I use the word loosely to describe the experience of PULSE (for me) as something more akin to an endurance test. Shoot me down in flames – I know it’s considered by many to be a fine work. On the subject of being creeped out by CURE (not to mention finding it a wholly immersive movie), I’m reminded of his more recent offering CREEPY; also a Eureka! MoC release – #159 / cat. no. EKA70248 for anyone wanting to check it out. A very worthwhile punt – a true slow-burner that amps up discomfort and horror with excellent pace... very, er, Creepy. Seriously). Couldn’t help viewing my neighbours with paranoid suspicion for a couple of weeks after seeing that and looking forward to revisiting CURE in what should be a fine presentation given Eureka!’s track record.

I like the fact that a few of our once, small scale independent and boutique labels such as Arrow Films, Eureka!, et al; have, with certain releases, left other (still respectable) outfits such as Criterion, Synapse Films, et al. in the dust, so to speak, when it comes to certain releases. An obvious one that comes to mind is Arrow Film’s VIDEODROME release, which made the Criterion Collection DVD look like a bare bones affair. Still, at least Criterion is making the effort to avail those of us in Region B land with more titles. Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD has never looked better or come more loaded.

Lots of exciting things coming from Eureka! and Arrow this year and can’t wait to put that CURE BD in the tray, on a cold, dark night, with the lights out. The accompanying collector’s booklet features an essay by Tom Mes – an adroit commentator on wide gamut of aspects in Japanese cinema. Should be a real treat both for first-timers and those revisiting.

Cure imo is Kurosawa's masterpiece and probably best described as the Japanese Se7en, came out a couple of years after Fincher's film and alongside Ringu really spearheaded the j-horror movement. Today it's kinda been forgotten about in the west because it's been neglected on home video for so many years but 10/15yrs back it was generally held in similar esteem to Se7en and is obviously a classic back in japan.

I'm really looking forward to receiving this.

Just a heads up though, when I watched a 35mm print of Cure on the big screen a couple years ago it was quite soft and muddy in appearance with greyish black levels the way a lot of Japanese movies are, including Kurosawa's own "Pulse". The presentation was filmic and nice but keep your expectations realistic as I wouldn't be surprised if this is in line with a lot of what we have seen from Japanese movies on BD. If there's been additional work performed and it looks better than the print I saw, I'll be happy to report that here.

I am really hoping that both Cure and The Cremator get blu-ray releases from Criterion. Now that both of these classics have proper HD digital transfers, nothing should stand in the way of North American versions.

MoC's releases are usually just as good as Criterion ones, if not better. If you can import, go for it.

The Cremator is region free, AFAIK. No reason not to import it. Second Run are a label everyone should be getting behind.

I screened this last night. What a fantastic movie! It reminded me a lot of Silence of the Lambs, and the villain was just as dangerous. The image and sound were great. Excellent cinematography and lighting in this film. Not much going on in the rear channels, but that's OK. Very impressed by this one.

Just as a heads up, my copies booklet has one blank page that is definitely not intentional. The essay just cuts off. Seems to be in a lot of peoples.

This is one of those discs that is worse in motion IMHO than screenshots show. It is clearly a very old master that dances around quite a bit when the camera pans.
