Germany The Mortician 3D Blu-ray (2011) [Region B Locked]

Hi, i cant find a thread on this . I used to own it and got rid of it years ago . But have now just bought a used copy on ebay from Germany . The trailers play fine but when the main film starts the music is very tinny and crackling . Also the audio is way off . Have i got a dud disc or is this what it was like on all discs ?

All I remember about this movie is how boring it is.

So this is a real 3D release? I'll have to get my hands on a copy. Boring or not I can tolerate quite a bit of mediocre horror.

Yes, it's real 3D, just don't expect too much from it.

It's not a horror movie. It's a drama. The 3D is fairly flat, mostly due to shallow depth of field (lens effect) rather than interaxial choice. I liked the movie though.

A drama, hmmm, interest waning. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm sure a drama starring Method Man and Edward Furlong is really compelling stuff

Watching it now, and I couldn’t disagree more about the 3-D, not flat at all, especially in those outdoor rainy scenes and the corpse-cleaning closeups. Very nice native 3-D, with impressive depth and layering throughout, and objects sometimes protruding from the screen a bit. The camerawork and framing really enhance the effect; you can tell the filmmakers cared about the process. I’m siding with Telegram Sam on the stereoscopic virtues of this one. But I’m liking the movie, so we can agree on that. Love our protagonist’s charmingly old-fashioned dress habits and his antique camera, and the slow burn atmosphere. Good performances all round too. This one deserves to be better known. I really wish there had been more native 3-D dramas and thrillers made during this period.

And, happily, no soundtrack issues with my copy; plays perfectly.

Just ordered a copy of this one after watching another excellent review from the great Go Find Fun YouTube channel. My hopes aren't exactly high, but I'm always in favour of any attempt to use 3D outside of genre/action films and animation.

Hi Yosemite....., err, I mean Telegraph Sam

Did the same after reading some reviews and watching the video from Go Find Fun you referred to. Native 3D got overall good reviews while story was mixed. Found an inexpensive used copy.

Looking forward to comparing notes

Hi Joe. Dagnabbit, this movie's gonna be full of doggone cotton-stuffed varmint..!

Indeed, I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on this one soon: My copy's on its way to me from Germany, so hopefully should arrive before too long.

3D (non-animation) completist that I am, I was intrigued by this title and thread so I watched the Go Find Fun vid and the reviewer used one of my fave punchlines: "There's a reason some movies are obscure."

When he noted that much of the pronounced 3D came into action during scenes wherein the mortician/taxidermist was dissecting animals, I made the determination this would be a pass for me.

To borrow a phrase I wish I'd first thought of, this movie strikes me not as a WhoDunIt but as a WhyDoIt?

Hi camps

Think you will enjoy it but note that though there are a few gory moments most of this is a drama. The 3D was consistently good.

Hi Joe.

So, my copy arrived today. I sat down to watch it - but my usual 3D player wouldn't play the 3D version of the film, at all. Tried another player, this time the 3D image worked okay, but the sound was badly distorted - exactly as per the problem gazadams had in the first post in this thread. Sounds like there was a problem with at least a batch of discs for this one; hopefully not all of them - and I especially hope to hear yours is okay.

Anyway, short story long, I thought I'd try ripping it to see if I could play an MKV copy of the disc ...and that worked fine.

And, have to say, I'm very glad I got a viewable copy in the end: The 3D in this film is very impressive.

Unusually, I definitely disagree with BleedOrange here, I tought this was easily among the more impressive native 3D offerings from that period immediately following Avatar: Full of great composition and quite powerful at bringing the grimy setting to life. High quality 3D, I'd say.

Best of all, as far as I'm concerned, this is the type of film I very naively thought we'd see more of when this second Golden Age of 3D kicked off: A serious drama aimed at adults. Such a rare treat to have a 3D movie that's not the usual fare.

Having said all that, I didn't exactly love the film! It was a nice enough low key drama, quite slow, but I liked it and would say it's certainy worth a watch for the committed 3D fan (that'll be you!).

And my thanks of course to our mutual friend Go Find Fun, without whom this lovely slice of "early modern" native 3D would have completely passed me by.
