Default Canadian sweepstakes law

I was taking a survey from a link I found in my BD today to win a Bravia TV. After reading the terms of agreement, at the bottom I saw this, haha.

" See Official Rules for mail entry deadlines. Mail entrants from Canada must also answer the following math skill testing question (within 2 minutes, unassisted (e.g., no calculators) and without any outside help) and include it with their mail entry: "what is 2 plus 2, subtracted by 2, multiplied by 2, divided by 2?""

What is that!? hahaha

It is the law in Canada to ask for a skill testing question for sweepstakes. You haven't noticed this before??? that's why most of these are rediculously easy.

the site is www.sonypictures.com/bluray/survey

It's on the 3rd page you go through or so. I have to go to school now so I haven't done the survey yet, but I thought that was too funny to wait

It's probably just another one of those stupid Canadian laws that they are required to follow.. otherwise the promotion falls into some stupid category/is illegal.. not Sony pictures.. probably just our dumb politicians "protecting" us again.

Why? Do you know their reasoning behind it?

It's the way to get around Canada's anti-gambling laws that restrict free giveaways. Because now it's not a prize awarded by random chance, but by skill.
