Default Fantasy movie face off: The Lord of the Rings vs Harry Potter

The title basically says it all. Which fantasy movie series do you like better? For me, it's The Lord of the Rings. Harry Potter was never my cup of tea, but I do respect that others like it.

LOTR. There's only two great Potter films, the rest are mediocre.

No contest here seeing as how LOTR are my favorite films of all time and I'd rather watch grass grow than sit through another Harry Potter movie

They're not even in the same league.

One is good, the other is great.

For me:

Great
Prisoner of Azkaban
Deathly Hallows Part 2 (though I imagine this isn't great if you don't care for the series. As a finale though it was fantastic)

Good
Philosopher's Stone
Goblet of Fire
Order of the Phoenix

Mediocre
Chamber of Secrets
Half-Blood prince
Deathly Hallows Part 1

Without a doubt Lord of the Rings wins for me. I like Potter and think it's an incredible achievement to adapt seven books over ten years and do it all so well, but they're still not in the same league.

The Harry Potter films sort of went through an identity crisis trying to decide what type of films they wanted to be. This wasn't helped by the vast amount of time the series ran for as well as struggling to find and keep a director for the series in the beginning. I think this led to mash of films and is why I dislike then, each film does not necessary fell like it fest with the rest until near the end of the series.

Plus, I think the films were also not helped by the fact the series had yet to be finished when the films where being release, as well as cutting to much from the books that would have proved useful towards the overall story. But that can partly be attributed to the fact the books had not been finished yet.

Definitely prefer Lord of the Rings. Though the books and source material is much better as well.

I enjoyed the first Harry Potter film, but I fell asleep in the theater during the second film, and never made it out to any of the others.

So, I'm voting for The Lord of the Rings films.

Neither of these series are worth wasting your time on. And, yes, I have seen them both in their entirety. Just awful stuff, IMHO.

For some reason I could never get into Harry Potter although most of them got great reviews. Lord of the Rings for me

I'd say I agree with this breakdown, but Goblet was borderline Good/Mediocre IMO.
