From two events in 1975 (the banks' takeover of New York and Kissinger's destabilisation of the Middle East) to the post-politics, post-truth, post-reality world of today that has given us Trump and Brexit.
A new Adam Curtis documentary is always something to enjoy but I thought Bitter Lake was a little too dependent on visuals for the first part. HyperNormalisation sees Curtis on top form, informative, funny, frightening, absurd, depressing and horrifying. 166 minutes fly by as he puts forward the most rational explanation I've seen of seen of how the world has come to be in such a hideous mess. Shame it will never be on disc (music and film rights as usual) but its on the BBC iplayer and Youtube. Best thing I've seen this year. |
