The Big Parade (1925) Coming in 2013!

the King Vidor silent classic has been confirmed by digitalbits as coming in 2013 as part of the Warner Brothers 90th anniversary celebration.
(Hopefully Warner will be releasing Greed and The Crowd as well--if only on dvd. Those 2 films are WAY overdo for a dvd release)

This is Fantastic news! I was afraid this and the other silents that were supposed to come out on DVD would be issued in the archive series. What were the other titles? The Crowd, I think...The Wind?

ps. I like the new 'bits, but criminny, it's slow.

Looks like The Jazz Singer with those vitaphones will be HD too.

"The Wind" was just on TCM in HD, but I do not know if it was remastered. "Greed" would be nice on Blu-ray, but don't hold your breath. In fact, the version we have now will be fine until (and if) they find the missing reels.
Looking forward to "The Big Parade".

well Greed isn't even on dvd, so it would be nice to at least be able to see it. I'm not sure which "version we have now" you are referring too, but maybe it's some hd cable version. Warner has mentioned releasing Greed on dvd several times in the past, so I really don't know what the issue is. Keep looking for more material, but just put the damn thing out so we can see it.

Scheduled for release this year or next are the following: Greed, The Wind, The Crowd, The Big Parade, The Scarlet Letter and Show People.

Wonder if any of the rest of these titles will show up next year?

yeah that reconstruction is all the way back from 1999, but for some UNKNOWN reason, never got released on dvd. It's like it's being held hostage by tcm for some reason.

Personally, whenever (if ever) Greed is released on blu - or DVD, heck - I would like to see the released, theatrical, 'cut-up' version. The TCM revision is admirable in purpose but the cutting between stills and real footage hampers the feature presentation as it rolls on. I would certainly recommend the released version to be watched before the TCM cut.

And it would be great to see Warner's bring news of a release of The Crowd to go along with The Big Parade.

This is tremendous news. Hopefully, Warner will also release The Crowd and the other silents they have delayed, as well as The Devils.

I believe jacksonwalker was referring to the fact that the reconstructed version that was done for TCM (and would be the logical release on DVD) is far from complete, in terms of von Stroheim's original cut of the film.

yeah I haven't seen that version, but I did try to order the anniversary vhs tape from a seller one time, but unfortunately it was listed wrong and I ended up with the first vhs release.
Warner was talking about bringing Greed to dvd as far back as 2005 I believe, and it just baffles me why it hasn't happened yet.
If it doesn't make it out for the 90th anniversary I guess it's never coming out.
At least The Big Parade is coming.
