Bandai Visual will bring Takeshi Kitano's latest film, Ryuzo and His Seven Henchmen (龍三と七人の子分たち) (2015) to Blu-ray in Japan on October 9th, 2015.

In keeping with precedent, it seems this release will sport English subtitles for the main feature, and there will be a standard edition single-disc BD, and a limited BD+Bonus DVD edition, with 100 minutes of additional extras (which are unlikely to be English-friendly). I love beat takeshi movies and I was excited about this movie but it got absolutely panned. He really needs to do another outrage movie!

I don't know why it was so panned. It's definitely the funniest Kitano movie so far. Saw it in theaters and people were busting out laughing the whole time.

Hey guys, I received my standard BD today. I enjoyed the film a lot, but it did tend to meander a bit. I did think Tatsuya Fuji was excellent in the title role, and Masaomi Kondô (Masa) and Akira Nakao (Mokichi) were equally superlative in their supporting roles. I was particularly pleased to see how Kitano had the older actors carry the entire film, and that the use of the younger characters was minimized.

Bandai's A/V presentation was outstanding, with no visual anomalies at all. On the audio front, while most of the film is dialogue-driven, there are some moments of separation, particularly during gunplay, and at the conclusion of the film, which are very nicely balanced.

This Blu-ray Disc is region-free.

Bandai Visual have provided both (default) Japanese: DTS-HD MA 5.1 and Japanese LPCM 2.0 tracks, as well as optional Japanese SDH and English subtitles for the main feature only. The disc loads immediately to the film after twenty-seven seconds of logos, but there are also bilingual Japanese/English menus.

The only extras on the standard BD are two Japanese trailers and a Japanese TV spot.
