Default Canadians ordering from US Amazon.com ?

Any Canadians ever order bd movies on amazon.com? How is the shipping? Did you have to wait long for the movies to arrive, both on current release and pre-order movies. I'm thinking of just ordering my movies on amazon, since i'm tired of paying overprice movies at fs/bb/hmv etc...

if i order online and its not ebay i get them off amazon.com and not amazon.ca. they difference in price between the two is major and more than covers the shipping costs. its much more worth it with bogo sales as the prices are half of those of .ca and its 2for1. shipping is a ***** but its better than the price .ca is asking. the delivery isnt amazing but its not terrible. they usually ship within 10 working days so about 2 weeks from the day it ships.

I've ordered 13 bd movies from amazon.com over the last couple of months. No problems and standard shipping costs are reasonable. Given the exchange rate these days, this is a no brainer IMO.

I usually get mine in less than a week (I'm in Ontario). They actually ship from a Canadian address in Ontario, and I haven't paid any GST/PST/Duties as a result. (Hope no one from Customs Canada reads this).

In all sincerity, the only downside to ordering from Amazon.com is that the shipping takes about 5 days instead of 2 days. I've been placing orders non-stop for the last 9 months.

They don't ship from Ontario. They ship from the U.S. to a Canadian warehouse where it gets re-assigned. I believe that's how they avoid the parcel receiving duty & tax charges. Since it appears to only be an allocation of stock quantity for businesses, there is no need for the shipments to get flagged at the border.

I've been buying at least 80% of my DVDs online for years and saving tons thanks to it. Just recently picked up a PS3 and getting into Blu rays too.

Amazon.com is great as you don't have to worry about any duty if you choose the standard shipping. I personally think their shipping prices are a joke though - way more than they should be. I think it's something like 7.95 for the first item then 3.00 for each additional item.

I usually order from deepdiscount.com as I only pay $5.95 shipping per order. Their prices have been a bit higher recently though, and you do have to worry about duty or larger orders. I've cut down on orders from them recently, but they do have a 20% off sale on right now on all released movies, so I'll be making a very large order again in the next few days (taking care of some chirstmas shopping).

I always price out between to two. Shipping times aren't bad, but customs is always backed up no matter where I buy from in the US. If I'm incredibly lucky I'm looking at 5 business days, usually closer to 2-3 weeks though.

I also buy the occasional item off of eBay, but that's usually OoP titles or much older releases I never got around to picking up (I find these tend to get closer to their MSRP after a while on other sites). Prices obviously vary, but I've run into very few issues.

Shipping takes a long time if you shop amazon.com.

I'm still waiting for my Spiderman Trilogy and I ordered it shipped October 30th. But I figure it's worth it because the Canadian prices are so damn ridiculous. I'll wait a month for my movie if I can save that much money.

Edit: Actually I just checked, it says it shipped October 29th. Delivery estimate November 8 - November 20 so I should get it early this week. This isn't unsual. The movies I ordered for the BOGO offer this past monday aren't supposed to arrive until December 7th at the earliest.

I recieved my BOGO items in less than a week, and as mentioned above, no duties since the final package originated from Mississauga, ON. I will definately be ordering from there again, for any delayed Canadian items.

The only positive thing of Amazon.ca is right now is that it actually has Rescue Dawn on blu available to pre oder.

http://www.amazon.ca/Rescue-Dawn-Blu...5431615&sr=8-1

I never order blu's from Amazon.ca, but if Rescue Dawn isn't on Amazon.com by the end of the week I might just get it from .ca

I always order from Amazon.com over Amazon.ca strickly because of my Blu-ray deal. A while back Amazon had a deal whereby if you bought 5 Blu-ray movies you'd get in on their HD poromotion. It's long since finished and my deals will end come Jan 1st. However, anything I pre-order will have the promotion applied so I'm going insane pre-ordering everything I can get my hands on. I got the Die Hard collection shipped via expedited and the total, including my promotion, came to $84.63US. Given the value of the Canadian dollar, my total bill will be approx $82.39CDN. Here in Montreal, Futureshop has the set for $92.99 + tax. Look at all the cash I've saved. This is why Amazon.com is the store that gets my cash.

Now if only the promotion would have lasted longer.

Amazon.com is great for BD titles. They are pretty quick for delivery and priced well (especially with all of the BOGO sales). Amazon.ca sucks balls. What's even better about .com is that you will receive titles that you can even get in Canada eg "Mr.Brooks" and multiple WB titles. It usually takes about 5-6 business days. Hope that was helpful.

Cheers

The last two shipments that I have received, have had Canada Post postage on them. They originally were shipped to Canada from Louisville, Ky, then remailed from Canada. Both times, I received them in three days. No taxes or duties applied. With the 14% tax saving and the U.S. dollar exchange, it's a no brainer.

Think so? If the first label is a US shipment label, why is there this marking?:

Canada Post/Postes Canada
Postage Paid Parcel

Odd thing for a parcel from the US, wouldn't you think?

I have no doubt the product comes from the US. And I expect Amazon boxes, and labels it. But, I think maybe they are container shipped en masse for postal delivery here.

Gary
