you know those Cheap HD DVD player's that are being produced out of CHINA...well not only does it have Blu-Ray as a direct rival format..but to have China SWITCH OVER TO CH-DVD..guess what..its not going to happen..what the HD DVD promotional group failed to mention this little tid bit...
remember EVD...you know Chinese companies unveil homegrown DVD technology JOE MCDONALD Associated Press December 6, 2006 at 12:47 PM EST On July 8, the Ministry of Information Industry declared that the national standard of EVD (Enhanced Versatile Disc) for the electronic industry was officially publicized online. It is China's first standard for high definition video disc system with the independent intellectual property, indicating that a "title" is finally given to EVD as the world's first industrialized high-definition digital disc player developed by China. On the same day, the China's Audio-Visual Industry Summit Forum was held synchronously in Guangzhou. In the forum, a keynote speech ýC Development Tendency of High Definition Disc Player ýC was delivered by Tian Yujing, a senior engineer with Television and Acoustics Research Institute of Information Industry Ministry and an authoritative expert in the audio-visual industry. During her speech, Tian analyzed one by one the three high definition disc formats that are based on red-laser technology, namely EVD, HVD and HDV, all of which are now speculated heatedly in the domestic industry circle. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...6.gtchinadvd07 well remember NME VMD: Welcome to NMEstore.com. Home of True High Definition http://www.nmeinc.com/index.aspx THEIR STORE: http://www.nmestore.com/ Wait you don't want to miss this: "Multilayer" Format Creators Merge Mar 1, 2006 | 338 words, 0 images Beijing E-world Technology Company, Ltd., creator of China's Enhanced Versatile Disc, has merged its format with the high-definition "Versatile Multilayer Disc" technology created by New Medium Enterprises of London, in efforts to gain a piece of the emerging global market for high-definition video carriers. The technology integration follows an equity swap between Beijing E-World, a publicly-traded electronics design company owned by 14 of China's leading device brands and OEMs, and NME in late 2005. Under the terms of transaction, NME granted roughly 40% of its company's equity and invested $8.5 million in return for a 69% stake in E-World. The combined group, renamed NME-World, is seeking to list itself on the Nasdaq stock exchange this year to raise $10 million for the global launch of its combined products. VMD is a red-laser-based optical disc with capacities ranging from 20GB to 40GB. The technology has the capability of up to 100GB of data storage, NME claims. EVD, launched in the Chinese domestic market in late 2003, also is red-laser-based, purporting five times greater picture resolution than the current DVD standard. Mahesh Jayanarayan, CEO of NME stated, "This closer cooperation will remove any perceived technological barriers and will accelerate the launch of true HD into the marketplace using the current red laser format. Combined with the electronic manufacturing resources of E-World, NME will be able to now compete in terms of quality and price with the electronics giants and roll out the HD devices comfortably by year end." The companies plan to jointly exhibit a high-definition VMD/EVD player at the CeBIT convention in Hannover, Germany this month. Beijing E-World CTO Xu Xiang said the two companies have achieved "total compatibility" between the EVD player and VMD discs, with commercial production of new players planned for early spring of this year. Content-wise, Bollywood film distributor Eros said it will support the new players with an initial slate of five high-def titles. http://www.medialinenews.com Copyright 2006 CMP Entertainment Media, Inc. it is not the DVD forum approved specifications for use of the HD DVD format in china.AND China approved .the Blu-Ray....format just like they did for HD DVD.... the Defacto HD MOVIE FORMAT FOR CHINA is NME-VMD EVD is CHINA's format and EVD and VMD are one and the same format now.... THEY MERGED THEIR FORMAT'S LATE 2006 and current form factor of EVD is....VMD What is HD VMD? by NME HD VMD - High Definition FormatHD VMD stands for True High Definition Versatile MultiLayer Disc. It is the next generation disc and player format designed to provide the best quality images on your High Definition television at a very affordable price. Unsurpassed picture quality, with 6 times the quality of a standard DVD and up to 7.1 surround sound. Versatile Multilayer Disc – VMD, is all set to become the latest video disc standard - the format of choice for high-definition video content, by providing increased storage capacity per disc. In order to play a full length motion picture in HD, the minimum storage requirement lies around 20 GB, whereas the latest DVD9 can only contain 8.5 GB. VMD is the much awaited breakthrough and compelling solution for cost effective High-Definition pre-recorded discs and players. VMD is precisely the same size and thickness as DVD. While DVD technology utilizes two layers of a disc, VMD technology has conceived multi-layering, whereby the storage capacity is dramatically increased. Each additional layer adds approximately up to 5 GB of memory over a standard DVD disc. VMD provides the ability to place up to 20 layers on a single disc with no quality loss in the content stored. This means capacity to record 100 GB or more. Versatile: Inherent backward compatibility with all the existing and previous Disc formats. VMD Drives will be able to read other standard formats including CD and DVD. Adaptable: VMD multilayer technology does not strictly function with red laser only, but can easily be applied to blue laser as well once the Blue laser technology is flawless. VMD would therefore attain even larger storage capacities easily outperforming all competition by offering increased storage whichever base it uses. Presently, all optical laser devices such as DVD operate on red laser technology, have a frequency or wavelength of 650Nm (nanometres), and deliver Standard Definition (SD) quality pictures. New technology has since emerged using blue laser, an inferior wavelength or frequency of 405Nm that can store more information .The downside of this technology is that manufacturing production lines of drives and discs will have to be dismantled and changed entirely, naturally incurring significant costs to the producers, which in turn will trickle to the consumer. Without making a drastic shift from Red laser technology, researchers at NME, have found a means of exploiting the unused or wasted space between the existing layers of a standard DVD through its unique multilayer technology. This brilliantly innovative technology is evident in Versatile Multilayer Discs or VMD, starting with a minimum storage capacity of 20GB today and expandable further in the future. This article was published on Tuesday 13 November, 2007. already China has players on the market the movie catalog right now: for EVD/VMD * Hostage * We Were Soldiers * Apocalypto * Lucky Number Slevin * Valiant * Saw II * Saw III * Lord of War * Fireplace & Aquarium * The Ark * Help I'm A Fish * El Cid * Mid Summer Dream * Passion of The Christ * Angeles Ashes * Babel * 16 Blocks * Set up * Hoodwinked * Oliver Twist * Princesse * La Planete Blanche * Pulp Fiction * Sahara * Demande A La Poussiere * Gosford Park * The Descent * Miss Potter * The Queen * Butterfly Effect 1 * Butterfly Effect 2 * Hitcher * Black Sheep * Lord of the Rings * Welcome to LazyTown * Dr. Rottenstein * Hero for a Day * Defeated * Rottenbeard * Cry Dinosaur * Secret Agent Zero * Sleepless in LazyTown * Happy Brush Day * Pixelspix * LazyTown’s New Super Hero * Sports Day * Crystal Caper * Lazy Scouts * My Treehouse * Swiped Sweets * Sportafake * The Laziest Town * Soccer Sucker * Dear Diary * Miss Roberta * Sports Candy Festival * Remote Control * Sportacus Who? * Zap it * Records Day * Ziggy’s Alien * Play Day * Prince Stingy * Robbie’s Greatest Misses * Dancing Duel * LazyTown’s Greatest Hits * Sportacus on the Move! * LazyTown’s Surprise Santa * Sailor et lula * Scorpion * Le caïman * Spy kids * Scarie movie 2 * Les chansons d'amour * Khakar Khakar * Alaipayuthey * Pammal K Sambantham * Panchathanthiram * Ghilli * Boys * Kandukondain Kandukondain * Water * Bheja Fry * Bridge to Tarabitha * Hanuman * Malamal Weekly * Constant Gardner * Jo Jeeta Wohli Sikander * Page 3 * Parzania * Iqbal * China Town * Sholay * Andaz Apana Apna * Hum Aapke Hai Kaun * Padosan * Maine Pyaar Kiya * Kashmir Ki Kali * Pyaasa * Sapoot * International only * Khanna & Iyer * Inquilab * Namak Haram * Dil Ek Mandir Last edited by joeorc; 11-16-2007 at 02:14 AM. |
