THG: Catching Fire sales 3.9 million discs in its first week. Blu-ray receiving 50% of sales up from the 35% it received when the first installment was released

This year's HG Blu-ray is a combo, while last year it was not (it appears that Lions Gate is bucking the trend and starting to go with combos this year). So that may have something to do with why the unit market share increased so much. But anyway good news on the sales for sure.

It was the top selling DVD (and perhaps top selling for both formats combined), but I believe either The Hobbit or Skyfall sold the most units on Blu-ray last year.

Correct. The BD share would have been 100% if there were no DVD-only release, but I guess not everyone knows that. Thanks for pointing that out.

I think his point was that it does not make sense for someone that only has a DVD player and not interested in BD to pay a premium for the combo when he can only buy the DVD for much cheaper. It does not make sense that the "bundled DVD" would push up sales by a lot for the BD when people have a choice.

THG : Catching Fire started out its digital life in the DI suite probably at ~ 12.74 million pixels (full aperture 4K) before getting whittled down to 7.02 million pixels for the D-Cinema 4K scope version (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...es#post8439496 ) and ultimately making it onto the mastered from 4K List for the Blu-ray deliverable ![]() |
