Paramount The Godfather (1972) / The Godfather: Part II (1974)

Yes i know its a stupid question so i don't want any trolling. Im eighteen for christ's sake i haven't seen them yet and i have heard mixed things about it and no i have no Netflix and i am not a renter. I just need to know if i should get them because i am kind of interested.

I'm not a fan. I thought both Goodfellas and Casino were far superior to The Godfather trilogy.

if you don't like mature dramas that are concerned with actual storytelling and dialogue don't get them.
The whole story is a little over 5 hours I believe so if you aren't prepared for a fairly involved plot with plenty of long conversational scenes then you probably won't like it.
that said, I like to look at the two parts as one movie, and imo it is just about the best one ever.
It really draws me in, and makes me wish it were even longer.
you just have to have the right expectations going in.

funny stuff, anyways young blood, if you like TRUE gangsta movies that basically started it all then yes these 2 movies are a must, they are in my top 10 movies of all time.. the story really draws you in, and if your Italian you will appreciate a lot of the movie.. i.e. setting, score, actors, minus Duvall and Caan.. and they look amazing on BD by the way

its different then goodfellas and Casino, theres no gore and beat down scenes.. but these 2 movies set the bar and the only thing that has come close on the lines of gangsta movies is goodfellas.. trust me get these you wont be let down

The Godfather just gets better and better each time I watch it. For some reason Part II just doesn't do as much for me anymore. Does anyone else get the feeling that the cast was just too aware of the greatness of the original? It's almost like they tried too hard to live up to the first one and the whole thing just came across as contrived and not as natural like Part I.

I would say go for it! Nothing comes close in the gangster genre! Goodfellas even pales in comparison. If you want the big daddy of gangster films that is what you are looking for.

Sorry.

"Yes i know its a stupid question so i don't want any trolling." Why even bother asking? Godfather 1 & 2 are easily in the top 10 movies ever produced.

If you want a modern gangster movie, get American Gangster, it's amazing too. Or Just watch the entire Sopranos series. All full of win.

it may not be that gory (and there are a handful of pretty graphic scenes) but numerous people definitely get wacked...
