Default If Warner went RED

Hey guys, I thought I would post a separate topic regarding the "idea" of Warner going RED (if they did, they are definitely dumbasses)!!! Anyhow, if this was the case, what would you predict the format war to turn out to be?

Do you think the "Blu" studios are going to be even more hardcore dedicated to Blu or do you think that all the studios will probably end of flip-flopping one way or another in this situation?

Thanks.

I think you'd see a lot of companies start pushing dual-format players. All 3 BD exclusive studios are there for a specific reason (Sony cuz they invented it, Disney for region coding I think? and Fox for DRM) and I don't see them switching.

Don't forget that Fox, Sony, and Disney also own multiple studios as well.

If Warner went HD DVD exclusive, then the video industry will be in a dark age for the foreseeable future because there is no quick end to this mindless format war. HDM will be a niche market until combo players are more affordable or a new format/downloads emerges.

MGM and Lionsgate are Blu exclusives too, let us not forget.
If Warner went Red, well I'd say that would put the format war in a real stalemate with a 50/50 Discs sales for a long time to come, endangering the future of HD itself.
But with better sales on Blu and yet much better sales if they go Blu + the certainty of a war finishing within a year should they go Blu, I'm sure Warner would not be fool enough to go Red ...

This is exactly what would happen. It would destroy the home theatre media experience for the next 10 to 15 years until the next format is ready... but, before that even happens Microsoft will sweep in and force downloadable content into the mainstream. And that, my friend, would blow goats!!!

I give Warner an 85% chance of going exclusive blu next year. There is nothing positive in developing two different HD disks with the superior format having getting the same level of capabilities as the inferior one. That makes no sense to deliver the format with 2 to 1 sales ratios with a lower standard.
There have been plenty of intimations from that company recently. A little back peddling by Warner from statements made at the blu-rayathon, but I consider these original "misinterpreted" statements as a clear indication of Warners already decided format choice. They just don't want any information leaked or to give any posititve statements that reflect this position at this time. The numbers speak for themselves in format disk sales. Warner is a business out to make money and I beleive they will (and are aware of this) take the brave but logical step in being the ones to push this format war over the edge for themselves, for every HD disk consumer, and other studios benifit. Once they leave HD DVD, its over. Universal will pull out. End of format war.

How about Starz and Lions Gate? Are they BD exclusive?

not unless universal went Blu before the end of 2008...and on top of that, all of the current BD supporters staying exclusive....

it would still take awhile for the war to end...but I believe everyone is pushing for one format so we can end this madness..

to be honest, i think whichever WB chooses wins, unless Universal pulls a complete 180 and goes Blu. Warner Bros. has all the big hitters, and if they went Blu exclusive all HD-DVD has is Uni and Paramount, who arguably have the same quality of catalog combined as Warner Bros. If they go HD-Dud exclusive, it would be a lot closer because Blu has Disney.
