Sixty years after the Brown v. Board of Education decision, revisit the historic civil rights Supreme Court case in the spellbinding drama SEPARATE BUT EQUAL starring legendary actor, Sidney Poitier. Following the events that led to the pivotal decision, the powerful movie based on a true story arrives on DVD May 6 from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Media Distribution. Portraying the future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Poitier is joined by Richard Kiley and Burt Lancaster, in his final role.
The movie was restored by transferring it from the original ‘on-set’ camera negative and digitally removing dirt and scratches to give it a pristine image. The audio was also restored from the 35mm Mag.
Written and directed by George Stevens, Jr., SEPARATE BUT EQUAL follows the dramatic events in which a legal battle involving a small rural classroom leads to the Supreme Court decision to finally outlaw segregation. When the African-American students of Clarendon County, South Carolina are denied their request for a single school bus, lawyer Thurgood Marshall (Poitier) argues the racially charged lawsuit before the highest court in the country in a courageous battle for justice and equality.
In addition to the movie, the SEPARATE BUT EQUAL DVD also features a 1954 Edward R. Murrow report for CBS News on race relations, See It Now: A Study of Two Cities.
The SEPARATE BUT EQUAL DVD is presented in 4x3 aspect ratio with English Stereo audio and English SDH subtitles. The total running time is approximately 3 hours and 11 minutes. It will be available for the suggested retail price of $16.99.
