Captain 2 will be number 1 again.

Rio will do a slow burn through Easter and into the Summer like the first one did, might even reach number 1 eventually in a slower week before Spider-Man.

Captain America won't be able to topple the family film.

"Early Friday Box Office: #1 too close to call. 'Capt America 2' (Marvel - 3938 runs) and 'Rio 2' (Fox - 3948) $40M-$42M wkd"

sad that Cap is falling that much (not an awful dip but around 55% it looks like) and was hoping Rio 2 would bomb as the first one was one of the weakest animated films from the major studios in the past few years .

A 55% drop isn't bad at all. It's pretty much expected. It's exactly what I predicted and certainly a better hold than Thor 2 and Iron Man 3. It could still fall under 55% for the weekend. You never know.

Sorry but sadly Rio 2 is winner this weekend for around $42 million.

Captain America 2 looks to do under $40 million with a near 60% drop.

Kevin Costner bombed yet again with Draft day .it looks like that's only opening to $11 million.

Doesn't sound like it will have legs. From deadline.com:

Quote:
Audiences aren’t warming to horror picture Oculus and forget positive word-of-mouth on this picture with a C CinemaScore. There has yet to be a well-received horror pic this year as the last ones to go wide were Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones on Jan. 3 and Devil’s Due two weeks later and neither scored well with audiences. But, if the film makes what it is estimated to $12.2M to $12.8M, it does okay for Relativity.

Yeah, it seems more like a case where critics love it and audiences hate it, ala Cabin in the Woods. However, that had surprisingly solid legs for the bad WOM. I think the great reviews actually kept people interested despite the audience WOM working against it. So Oculus could see similarly decent legs, just not out-of-this-world ones like Insidious had.

I think the Cinemascore ratings are getting increasingly unreliable in terms of predicting future box office potential. Wolf of Wall street had a C score and still managed something like a 4x opening weekend multiplier.

It really depends. Wolf also had the benefit of all of the awards acclaim to keep it afloat.

Box Office: 'Captain America: Winter Soldier' trumps 'Rio 2' with $41.4 Million.

Quote:
Globally, Disney and Marvel Studio's Captain America 2 has now earned a massive $476.1 million worldwide -- eclipsing the $370.6 million earned by the first Captain America in its entire run. The movie, grossing north of $80 million in China alone, has also earned more than the first Thor ($449 million).
