Default New TV time........bigger or 240 hz?

I'm starting to shop for a new tv. My Sony 60" rear projection has served me well but I'm wanting to upgrade. I'm at least getting a 65" but am torn with Staying at 65 and doing a 240 hz set or going 70 and having to stay with a 120 hz in that size due to budget reasons. Any thoughts?

Why not go plasma?
It's not really that much more energy-wise than LCD/LED TVs. Also, the refresh rate is much faster. Color reproduction is comparable (it used to be much better than LCDs, but now the difference is negotiable), they are now really thin and price range isn't much different.

Why do you feel the need to have a 240Hz versus 120Hz display?

Your current TV is a 60", so why buy new HDTV that's only 5 inches bigger than the one you already have? 5 inches, is not going to be that big of difference in screen size.... If I were you, I would go for the 70" or larger, if you can afford it.

I've definitely considered plasma. That's not out of the question. I think I had found a 64" Samsung on Amazon that had a refresh of 600 Hz that was very reasonably priced.

As far as wanting a 240 (or faster) vs 120 is that I've just seen the better performing TVs at friends and family members homes and I just really enjoy how that looks and when sitting down with my set after seeing theirs I can really tell a difference.

My current set is a 7 year old Sony LCD Projection(not sure the part number of the top my head)

Thanks

5 inches doesn't sound like much when talking side by side but it is roughly 15% bigger in screen surface. Not that that is huge but it's considerable.
There are some 70 inch screens at the 120 hrz that are in the ballpark. I'm just weighing the options.

If it's the same room as in your gallery, then you could consider a projector. Then the only thing limiting the size would be wall dimensions and projector throw. New projector models are being released right now, so previous year models can be had cheaply with a little effort.

Absolutely! I've just viewed his gallery, and considering the size of the room, a projection screen would be good idea, but then he would have relocate his front speakers.

For the size of your room, the 60" even looks tiny. Well if you do decide to get the 65", you may regret by not getting a bigger screen afterwards. When you get used to seeing a TV screen, it begins to get gradually smaller and smaller! I know for a fact because, It happened to me! When I've bought the 50", took it home and start viewing it for awhile, I wished that I had purchased the 60" instead. So after a few days, I returned it, and exchanged it for the 60", then I was satisfied. You certainly have the room to accommodate a 70", or even a projection screen.

Thanks to all for weighing in on my topic. I'm not really to where I want to do a projector. I don't have the cabling ran appropriately for that in this particular room. Getting a good projector and screen and all the room adjustments I'd need to make to go along with it would price me out of making that change as well.

I'm not "unhappy" with my current screen size of 60" From my seating distance it really is a pleasing size(bigger is always better, however). I would not say it's tiny by any means. My Sony is just starting to show signs and exhibit some problems that are normal for that model and it's time to replace. So I say if that's the case I'm at least getting something a little bigger and if possible improve the refresh rate than I currently have.

This is so true.
I had a 55" plasma, and I was pretty happy with it.
Then I got a 65". When I got home and put it on my TV stand, I said to my friend "wow, it looked a lot smaller in the store."

I was kinda worried I went TOO BIG. But then I plugged in The Avengers on blu, and within just 20 seconds I said to myself "nah. This screen size is fine."
