Default New TV: What features should I be looking for?

Hi all, this is the first time I'm buying a TV in 10 years so I'm lost on what I should be looking for. I've already got a WD Media Player to stream files. Which brands are good? I'm from Australia if that matters.

My uses:

-Bedroom TV. I need something to watch when I'm falling asleep.

-I need a TV with a headphone 3.5mm because I'll be using headphones for almost all of my usage. How can I check if the TV has a good headphone jack? My iPod Touch has great sound when I use headphones. Would any TV match the iPod Touch or do I need to look for a high-end TV?

-Watching downloaded movies which are of a low quality: I guess slightly below 480p or so? I have some 1080p movies, but 80% of what I watch will be below 480p.

-Not planning on gaming.

-I was thinking of something around a 32-40inch screen as I want to be about 7-10ft away from it.

Thanks!

Anything below $450?

By the way, I heard that there's something called 'A blue light' when you watch TV and it's bad to see it before you sleep. Do any special TV's come without this?

In Australia any cheap lcd will be the way to go then. You're not going to fiund anything that is all that impressive though in that price range (unless you can find a cheap Samsung plasma which we didn't really ever get from what I have seen).

I wouldn't worry about 'blue-light'. Just make sure whatever tv you get has a sleep mode (soi it turns itself off automatically after a set period of time and that it has a 3.5mm jack (I would also recommend going with a brand name tv and not something like palsonic).

I haven't seen this tv myself but it seems like a good fit for you. http://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-32...hd-led-tv.html

I honestly am not the most versed in the lower end of the market, every 32" tv (excluding monitors) I have used and checked for has had a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones but my knowledge of more recent displays in this regard is small as they are of limited interest to me.

The tv I linked to does say it has a headphone out and sources online say it does have a 3.5mm jack so you should be fine. Maybe just check one out at a local store if you are still at all concerned.

Thanks, brother!

I'll check it out in the store when I go in this weekend.

BUT I won't be able to check if the headphone jack gives good enough quality or not. My iPod Touch's headphone jack is great. Would the TV be anything like that?

Thanks!

Hard to say without trying. I would be shocked if it was unacceptable in comparison, apple don't exactly use the best components.

Well, as long as it's just as good as the iPod Touch headphone jack I'll be happy.

How can I check the quality of the headphone jack?

Find a store that sells it, take your headphones and ask to try it I guess.

Thanks!

But surely a TV's headphone jack would be just as good as an iPod's headphone jack?

Most likely it will be of similar quality. I just don't want to guarantee it having not used it on that particular model. I did use it on a friends lg 32" lcd tv (not sure which model) and it was comparable, so I can't see that changing with there tv's.

Thanks!

I'll look for an LG, but Panasonic or Samsung would be the best brands for a decent headphone jack, right?
