This is going to be a ways of, since Volume 6 isn't out till March. Don't be fooled, these aren't full Season sets, since the "Season" 5 set it's been half a season per release, 13 episodes a piece. Season 5 was actually the 4 movies, Season 6 is 26 episodes being spread out over 2 releases. Fox pulled this crap with Family Guy too.

Just want to make clear that the blu-ray sets of Volume 5 in the US, and season 5 in the UK are not the 4 direct-to-DVD films (2008-09). However the films were split into 16 episodes and aired as a "season".

The volume/season sets are;
US volume 5/UK season 5 = first half of season 6 (2010 eps)
US volume 6/UK season 6 = second half of season 6 (2011 eps)
US volume 7/UK season 7 = first half of season 7 (2012 eps)

.

The way it was worded could confuse, you said;
Quote:

but then went onto say;
Quote:
Season 5 was actually the 4 movies
20th Century Fox UK should have just called them volumes, to avoid confusion. As you said, they created the same problem with the Family Guy DVD sets.

There's a big difference though, in that Futurama aired its season as two separate blocks, a year apart. The release is mirroring the TV seasons which is fair enough (if a little confusing with the season numbers). That's not what happened with Family Guy/American Dad.

Anyone know why the UK is over a year behind with the BD releases? on Saturday I received Volume 7 from the US but Volume 6/Season 6 isn't getting a UK release until next March?

Since the show got cancelled and was picked up for new episodes by Comedy Central the UK releases have been lagging behind. Sky's usual poor promotion probably hasn't helped either. We've only had half the movies as well.

If they do, they'll be up-scales - seasons 1 to 4 weren't made with HD in mind. They changed their production process when they returned to make Bender's Big Score (the first of the four DTV 'features').

Not necessarily, seasons of The Simpsons done before HD have been released on Blu in proper 1080p.

Anything can be in 1080p, but were the Simpsons releases actually remastered by Fox or did they upscale the content? (That's a genuine question - I don't know the answer.) Animation like The Simpsons or Futurama usually handles an upscale well because of the lack of texture and detail.

At the very best they'll still be 4:3 pillarboxed - Futurama only went 16:9 after Season 4.

They are just upscales, they are better than the DVDs but still not true HD.

Have you actually seen them? There's no way they're "just upscales", 4:3 does not equal untrue HD.

I know they’re not on Blu yet, but I am so glad I own the first four seasons on DVD. I also prefer the way the first four are not chopped in half like they’ve done since the show was brought back. What a mess.

They are up-scales but have better encoding with less compression than the DVD's. The Simpsons wasn't in HD until halfway through season 20 anything before that is up-scaled.

I have all 3 and while better than the DVDs they are still upscales, very similar looking to the DVDs upscaled but with better colours and far less compression artefacts.

As for the aspect ratio of course 4:3 material is HD it just has black bars encoded into it, I have plenty of true HD releases in 4:3 (ie The Prisoner/Space 1999/Star Trek TOS)
