Default The Lift (1983) / Amsterdamned (1988) (Collector's Editions)

SURPRISE TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT: After 10+ years of trying, we're very pleased to announce that we've finally closed the deal to bring Dick Maas's AMSTERDAMNED and THE LIFT to the U.S. for the first time since VHS & LaserDisc! Blu-ray and DVD will be released at some point next year. Nothing else to report at this time.

I have not seen The Lift in years. I remember i used to have it on Betamax when i was about 14. I would love to see it again to see how it holds up. Amsterdamned is a movie i spent years trying to track down and forgot about, i might give that a whirl too.

Hopefully the quality is good. The current German Blu-ray of Amsterdamned is very bad.

-Cut status (StudioCanal did an uncut replacement plan. But I think the cut version is still in stores... Amazon doesn't have this Blu-ray anymore for months. 3-party sellers only)
-Horrible scanner noise, affects the PQ.
-Not the original film title in the intro. German

On October here in the Netherlands, Flodder, De Lift & Amsterdamned will be for the first released as well on Blu-ray. The release company "Dutch Filmworks" doesn't have a good reputation. Dutch Filmworks claims new scans. Although Dick Maas wasn't involved on these releases.

It's such a shame the film licences on the Dick Maas movies are such a mess due bankrupt of FFF (First Floor Features)

Holland Also in Holland

Both of them are finally coming out in Holland also on November 7 2016 if I can believe the Bol.com website. They come as a Collected Boxset or seperate copy for sale. Hope with extra's
A know fact about "the Lift" is that Dick Maas made his own remake for the US market and called it DOWN. It could or wished it would be his break thru flick in the US. But it would come out on the time that New York had their biggest tragedy of 9/11. So it was pulled back and never heard of it again, maybe there is a trailer on YouTube.
Dick Maas not standing still his new movie Prooi/Pray is coming out in Holland on October 13th 2016.
Also the Flodder movies coming out on Bluray in Holland.
Me, still waiting for a propper release of "Soldier of Orange"from Paul Verhoeven.

It was actually released direct to DVD here as The Shaft. Personally, I found it a pale imitation of The Lift, overlong with needless subplots. I doubt it would've been much of a breakthrough.

Nice. I always wanted to see both films after reading very good things about 'em in those old Video Watchdog and horror/cult movie books.

Easy blind buys for me.

Exclamation Just wait and giving the heads up

If you only want "Amsterdammed" the movie for what it is just buy if you can't wait, but if you go for quality don't even bother buying it. It's very cheap doh.
The problem with it is that it is an exact copy of the German release. Poor picture quality and it has been cut. Where well on the end:
[Show spoiler]They don't show the harpoen right thru the head
.If you believe the reviews that I saw on bol.com. I was hoping to get this one but afer reading that I am so disappointed so I am only gonna get "The Lift" and that one is pretty good.

Finally someone is giving the HD treatment to The Lift.
Yeah, the US remake is pretty forgettable. The only thing interesting about it (in my opinion) is that Naomi Watts played the female lead before she starred in Mulholland Drive and became famous. And the male lead is James Marshall who played James Hurley in Twin Peaks. It's like a David Lynch reunion.

The Lift? Holy crap! I haven't thought of that flick in years and years. I am SO buying this when it drops - and hopefully it stands up.

Never heard of Amsterdammned, I'll have to check out a trailer on youtube and see if it gets my mojo rising.

Sorry I don't really know. Just watch it again for that scene. If you still own Videorecorder?
