Monster cables are a total rip off. You can go to amazon or monoprice and get a HDMI and will work and perform the same as those overpriced cables for a fraction of the cost.

If your current cable is giving you no problems, there is no reason to "upgrade" to a newer overpriced one. HDMI cables are the biggest ripoff in electronics. Either they work, or they don't. Do stay clear of the $2 cables as the construction will evidently be poor, and not last long before failing. I know this first hand several times over. Check out monoprice.com or find them on Amazon and go with one of their better constructed cables. You can get very good quality one's starting at around $11

Many here will give you the same advice. I honestly wouldn't spend more than $20 for a standard 6ft cable. Just my two cents.

EDIT: and wingman1977 beat me to the punch. Heed this wise man's advice.

alright ill stick with it, but i dont buy hdmi cables under $50. heres what you gotta ask yourself if you're going to spend thousands on a home theater setup including movies, why not add $50-$100 for a hdmi cable? thats how i look at it. spend $100+ on bluray player, $500-$2000 on tv, thousands on movies and buy a $5-$10 hdmi cable? doesnt seem logical. but thanks for responses.

I get what you are saying but everyone is giving you sound advice. Personally I'd tell you the same thing. Not an engineer nor do I pretend to be one but HDMI is digital. its 1s,0s . While there are some handshaking issues that can occur. And some cases of digital snow. These issues are hit or miss. It can happen with a 10 cable or 1k cable.

I'll tell you what I tell my clients....Yes you have paid 1000's of dollars for your gear. But if you went to any Home Theater showroom or the Magnolia center right down the block, they are not using monster cables...... why should you!! Besides that money can go into blu rays or the next case of upgraditis.

My shoes cost over $100, but I still buy inexpensive laces for them at the supermarket.

Save your money and buy more movies.

Buy both, have a wife/friend/child whoever perform a blind test for you. You sit back and watch the screen while they swap the cable, not telling you which one is which. Make it easy for them, have them put one into HDMI1 no your display and the other into HDMI2. Then they only need to switch out the end on the blu ray player.

Keep the one YOU like, take the other one back. Very easy thing to do and then you were part of the decision rather then depending on others opinions (All of which I agree with btw, but that's besides the point )

Yes, you do buy cables that are under $50, but somebody sells them to you for more than that. Quality does not equal either price or packaging.

If you're paying more so you can tell someone what you paid, you're paying for that privelege. If you're paying more because you see an advertisement somewhere patting you on the back for paying too much, you're paying for the privelege.

Take the word of the people around here. I paid $89 for a cable once; then needed a longer one, paid $39; just got three more, paid $13 apiece.

No difference in performance. None. On my Kuro 151.

I've always thought, Monster Cable products were overpriced, considering their mediocre quality.

I myself like Monster Cables, but then again when I bought mine five years ago I got the at dealer cost.

If you have any Staples office supply stores in your area, many of them are going through Spring/Summer product refresh and some stores actually carry Monster HDMI cables and they would be on clearance right now. My local store has them and when an item hits clearance, they get rather desperate to get them sold so managers have more flexibility in the prices.

Aaaaahhhh.... ignorance is bliss.

Are you sure about what I bolded? You would shit your pants if you discovered what it cost to actually make your precious Monster Cable compared to what you paid for it. You'd probably end up wanting to write an angry letter if you really knew.

Spending more doesn't assure higher quality.

Well, yes. If the $10 cable works as well as the $50 one, why waste the extra $40? The $200 spent needlessly on five cables could have gone for a better AVR, sub, or speakers. It could have bought your BD player. Or, you could have spent it on a good dinner. Of, course, if you don't care about the money or what it can buy, then it really doesn't matter.

Do you know if it's a high speed hdmi cable?...

While most people agree the quality of HDMI cables is a non issue there are different types of HDMI cable. Everyone (who thinks) will point you to mono price and say just get a cable but you can notice there are "standard" and High speed versions.

There's a very real chance that a $3 cable from Amazon or Monoprice would perform better than your $70 Monster... And, I'm totally not kidding. 3D requires the newer cables designated "high speed HDMI" ... again... totally not kidding. Your monster cable could very well but worth less than a $3 version at this point.

I agree with all these guys. Don't give into the Monster Hype. I am like you though, in the fact that I would spend the extra money for a higher quality cable. The problem is, Monster is selling you snake oil (ripping you off). I buy these hdmi cables. And I think they are great especially for the longer runs. http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-6-Fe.../dp/B008PYOMG6

They have Redmere Technology. Which helps boost the digital signal over longer runs of cable. They are moderately priced. The only thing is that they have a "source" end and a "display" end, and you should make sure to hook them up correctly to receive the picture.

It's the OP's money he buys whatever he wants , 99% of us disagree but we are not in his pockets . If he spend $2000 in a TV he might should get a $1000 HDMI wile he is at it and see how rainbows will be more colourful and at the end he might find the gold pot to buy more HDMI cables
